SUMMARY:National Public Lands Day with Reconstruction Era National Historical Park
DESCRIPTION:On September 24\, 2022\, from 10:00am to 1:00pm\, Reconstruction Era National Historical Park will be working alongside community partners at Tabernacle Baptist Church for National Public Lands Day (NPLD) – the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort!  \nVolunteers will work to clean historic graveyard headstones around the church\, including that of the Honorable Robert Smalls\, and will learn the history of the church and grounds from Reverend Kenneth Hodges. \nSupplies needed for cleaning headstones will be provided by the park. Those interested in participating must pre-register. DESCRIPTION:Looking to get out and party Port Royal style? The Old Village Association of Port Royal is hosting the annual OktoPRrfest celebration on Paris Avenue once again. \nThe free event\, fast becoming a local favorite\, will be returning to Paris Avenue on Saturday\, September 24th from 11am to 5pm. \nDubbed\, “OktoPRfest – Party Port Royal Style\,” the event features local chefs\, restaurants and food trucks serving up German-inspired dishes that will be properly washed down\, Oktoberfest-style\, with a variety of craft\, imported and domestic beers. \nThe event also hosts live music\, and this year will include The Rhinelanders\, who specialize in fun\, German-inspired music\, including beer drinking songs\, the Alp horn and ballroom dance tunes. Also scheduled to take the stage is the popular local Beaufort band\, Broke Locals. \nOther entertainment includes a Classic Car Show with the Beaufort Classic Car & Truck Club\, a family-oriented Kids Zone for the little ones and talks with the local Bikers Against Bullies group. \nAs always\, there will be an artisan/craft fair at the event\, because Port Royal loves its local Lowcountry artisans. DESCRIPTION:The Historic Bluffton Foundation & The Heritage Peanut Company will present the 12th Annual Bluffton Boiled Peanut Festival on Saturday\, September 24th from 12:00-6:00 pm on Common Ground at the Heyward House in Downtown Bluffton. \nThe festival features all you can eat boiled peanuts\, live music\, a boiled peanut cook-off\, a peanut eating contest\, food vendors and the World’s Largest Boiled Peanut on display for all to see. \nThe highlight of the event\, the boiled peanut cook-off\, brings some of the finest boiled peanut purveyors in all the land together for the coveted title of “Best Nuts in Town”. The 2022 categories include traditional\, spicy and creative. \nCome out and enjoy music from The Horan Brothers Band. Admission is $15.00 per adult\, which includes all you can eat peanuts\, and children 10 and under are free. Beer\, wine\, soft drinks\, and water will be available for purchase and food vendors will also be on site. \n\n\n\nThe Heyward House\, built in 1841\, is located in the heart of Bluffton’s Historic District\, and serves as the official Welcome Center for the town of Bluffton. Common Ground at the Heyward House is a recently completed outdoor venue space featuring a beautiful wooden pavilion\, a brick fire pit\, and numerous picnic benches for entertaining.
