DESCRIPTION:The saying “sticks and stones may break my bones\, but words will never hurt me” is a phrase that has been used for countless years to illustrate the idea that words don’t hurt. However\, we all know that words have a large impact. The key is how we use them\, particularly when it comes to grief and loss. This workshop will explore how poetry can transform our relationship with grief by using elegies\, language and imagery to relinquish pain\, give power and honor our losses. \nThis interactive writers workshop will be held as an online video conference call through Zoom. Details for joining the video call will be provided to all participating writers after registering. \nJanuary 5\, 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Zoom. Limited to 15 participants. $45/person.\nRegister at https://patconroyliterarycenter.eventbrite.com \nAbout our Instructor:\nAngelo Geter is an award-winning poet\, educator\, author and performance artist based in Rock Hill\, SC. He currently serves as the Poet Laureate of Rock Hill\, SC\, and is a 2020 Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow. Geter is a 2018 National Poetry Slam champion\, Rustbelt Regional Poetry Slam finalist\, Southern Fried Regional Poetry Slam finalist and the Founder/Director of One Word Poetry Festival. His work has appeared on All Def Poetry\, Charleston Currents\, Gratefulness.com\, and the Academy of American Poets “Poem a Day” series. His debut collection More God Than Dead was released in June 2022.
