SUMMARY:Setting: More Than Just a Backdrop\, Online Writing Workshop Led by Anthony Grooms
DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED!\nIn this seminar and workshop\, participants will discuss setting in prose fiction\, including its importance in establishing “place\,” its integration into scene\, and its support of characterization and theme. References will be made to Willia Cather’s short story “Paul’s Case\,” and other short fiction. Students are welcomed to submit up to 750 words of original manuscript to be discussed in the workshop. (Submissions by registered participants must be received as PDFs by one week prior to the workshop.) \nThis interactive writers workshop will be held as an online video conference call through Zoom. Details for joining the video call will be provided to all participating writers after registering. \nFebruary 16\, 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Zoom. Limited to 15 participants. $45/person. Register at https://patconroyliterarycenter.eventbrite.com \nAbout our instructor:\nAnthony Grooms writes on a variety subjects in several genres from historical fiction to science fiction\, however his most notable work has been about the American Civil Rights Movement in the southern United States. He is the author of the novels Bombingham\, and The Vain Conversation\, the story collection Trouble No More\, a collection of poems\, Ice Poems. His stories\, essays\, and poems have appeared in a number of anthologies and literary journals\, most recently in Atlanta Noir and Alabama Noir. He is a two-time winner of the Lillian Smith Prize\, a Hurston-Wright Legacy Award Finalist\, a Black Caucus of the ALA Honor Fiction Award\, and other honors.
