DESCRIPTION:Palmetto Running Company presents the 8th annual Hilton Head Freedom 5K run & walk held on Memorial Day\, May 29th\, 2023 at beautiful Port Royal Plantation on Hilton Head Island. The Freedom 5K is a great opportunity to honor those among us who have served in the armed forces with a fun\, family friendly event. Run with the American flag\, dress in your patriotic best Red\, White & Blue maybe you’ll win the most patriotic runner award. Enjoy one of the most scenic courses on Hilton Head. A portion of the race proceeds and 100% of all donations will go directly to the Semper Fi & America’s Fund. \nThis event has sold out every year\, register early and you’ll receive a commemorative Freedom 5K Dog Tag along with your race shirt. \nEntry Fee and Registration: \n$35– 5K Run Adult\n$25– 5K Run Military and immediate family (must present ID) \n$20 – 5K Run Children 12 & under \nStrollers and leashed dogs are always welcome. \nPacket pick up and late registration will be held on Sunday May 28th 2-5PM at Palmetto Running Company\, Shelter Cover Towne Center\, Hilton Head. \n*First 300 runners will receive a Freedom Run 5K race shirt and will receive a special Freedom Run dog tag. We highly recommend coming to packet pick up on Sunday\, May 28th 2-5PM. Shirt size are not guaranteed. DESCRIPTION:The annual Beaufort Memorial Day Parade is back\, scheduled for Monday\, May 29th at 10am. \nThe parade will follow the traditional route along Boundary Street from Rogers Street\, onto Carteret Street\, Bay Street and then back to Rogers Street ending at the Beaufort National Cemetery. \nAt noon\, a ceremony to commemorate all those in the military who lost their lives in service to our Country will be held at the Beaufort National Ceremony with a keynote speaker. \nMemorial Day is for honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military fighting for our liberty and freedom. \nIt’s not a day for celebrating. It’s a day for remembering. \nOriginally known as Decoration Day\, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials\, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.
