DESCRIPTION:Reconstruction Era National Historical Park to Host Bird and Nature Walk at Penn Center National Historic Landmark District  \n Reconstruction Era National Historical Park invites the public to attend a free birdwatching and nature hike along the Capers Creek Nature Trail at the Penn Center National Historic Landmark District on Saturday October 28th at 8 am. The hike will begin at Darrah Hall and last around 1-hour and cover approximately 1-mile of walking.   \nAs the summer heat of the Lowcountry turns to the relatively cooler weather of fall\, many of the region’s birds are on the move. Join a park ranger and Bill Jirousek from the Fripp Island Audubon Club for a guided walk to learn more about environmental stewardship of the coastal marsh\, and the birds\, trees\, plants\, and wildlife that call St. Helena Island home. Participants are encouraged to wear long pants and closed toed shoes\, and dress appropriately for the weather. DESCRIPTION:The Junior Service League of Beaufort (JSLB) will host its 8th annual Touch-a-Truck fundraiser on Saturday\, October 28th\, 2023 at the Beaufort Executive Airport from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Touch-a-Truck is a family-friendly event open to children of all ages. There will be a designated Quiet Hour 10-11 a.m. for those sensitive to noise. The cost of admission is $5 per person and is free for children under 2 years of age. \nTouch-a-Truck is a family event that offers a unique and interactive experience for children of all ages. Children will have the opportunity to see\, touch\, and safely explore their favorite vehicles that serve our community\, including a fire truck\, a patrol car\, stormwater vehicles\, and construction vehicles. New this year\, the event will also feature airplanes and helicopters. There will be food trucks\, music and plenty of on-site parking. \nPlease note:\n– In the case of rain\, the event will be postponed to November 4th\, 2023.\n– Pets will not be allowed at the event.\n– Touch-a-Truck will take place immediately after The Flying Frog 5k.

DESCRIPTION:Beaufort’s ghosts\, ghouls and freaks are coming out at night as the 29th year of CAPA’s Ghost Tours hit the streets of downtown Beaufort this month. \nThe historic moss-lined streets of Beaufort are full of interesting ghostly stories and you can make plans to get spooked while taking a haunted tour beginning October 13th and you’ll hear lots of eerie accounts retelling haunted stories about our historic town. \nSponsored by The Exchange Club of Beaufort\, Ghost tours will be available as either a 45-minute carriage ride or a 60-minute walking tour meeting ghosts and ghouls along the way who will reveal scary Beaufort stories that have been passed down for generations. \nLegendary ghosts of Beaufort include Gauche\, the 15th Century French dwarf who rumored to roam “The Castle” at 411 Craven Street. Gauche is said to be one of America’s oldest ghosts. Other ghostly stories include William Baynard\, the unknown spirits living in Wigg-Barnwell House and Frogmore Manor\, the Land’s End Light\, the ghostly lovers of Fripp Island Beach. \nSign up now to take a narrated carriage ride or walking tour through Beaufort’s Historic District while listening to stories of the ghosts that are rumored to haunt Beaufort’s historic homes. \nDates/Times/Tickets\nOctober 13\, 14\, 15\, 20\, 21\, 22\, 27\, 28\, 29 \nCarriage tours via Southurn Rose Buggy Tours leave every 15 minutes starting at 630pm from the parking lot at 1006 Bay Street. Each narrated tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.\nCarriage Tour: $30 adults/$20 children 3-11 \nWalking ghost tours of downtown Beaufort begin at 7pm and leave every 20 minutes from Cannon Park\, across from 611 Bay Street. Each narrated walking tour lasts approximately one hour. Each day\, the 7pm walking tour time slot is also stroller and pet friendly.\nWalking Tour: $20 all ages \nThe event is organized and sponsored by The Exchange Club of Beaufort\, and proceeds from all of the annual ghost tours benefit CAPA Beaufort.
