SUMMARY:Beaufort Garden Club 2024 Garden A Day Tours
DESCRIPTION:Don’t Miss our Garden-A-Day Tour…coming again in June 2024! Monday\,  June 3  –  Friday\,  June 7. \nWe hope you’ll join us when The Beaufort Garden Club presents its Annual Garden-A-Day tour of private gardens\, first full week of June\, 2024\, Rain or Shine. Admission to the gardens is free! Gardens will be open each day from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Most have been planned\, planted and cared for by the homeowners. These passionate gardeners appear to have been all over the map\, searching out the rare and exotic in the Southern states. And what they couldn’t find in plant form\, they found in seed catalogs and grew themselves. Each year\, Certified Master Gardener members of the Low Country Master Gardener Association are on hand to identify plants and answer gardening questions. \nSee the poster below for daily locations.

SUMMARY:3rd Annual Black Moses Freedom Festival
DESCRIPTION:We are the Black Moses Freedom Festival celebrating Heritage\, Health\, and Wellness. We would like to invite you into the heart of this journey with an explanation of the festival and the goals and ideas associated with it. The Black Moses Freedom Festival was created with the idea of celebrating the Spirit\, Ingenuity\, and Liberation of African Americans and people of color around the globe. Keeping in the spirit of Harriet Tubman alive as “Moses” of the south right here in Beaufort were she accomplished a huge victory. We are held up by the Pillars that we feel were the important aspects and underlying energy of the missions of her legacy. \nThe 5 Pillars That Honor The Legacy of Harriet Tubman & Goals of BMFF: \nGod First: Harriet believed in a Higher Power that guided her through the most dangerous situations\, freeing hundreds of slaves and never being caught. Being a woman of small stature and living well into her 90’s\, we must believe that she had supernatural help guiding and protecting her. She was a believer\, and allowed GOD to lead her to freedom. \nLand and Connection to nature: Harriet knew the land\, the plants for survival\, the stars for guidance\, and the animals to be aware of. She did not just survive the humans and dogs chasing her down\, she also survived the wilderness with women\, children\, and elders in tow. She was a natural woman and an herbalist who healed soldiers who were dying of dysentery in Beaufort\, SC with herbs she found at the river. \nFamily: Harriet began freeing people by first\, attempting to free her family. All the others she freed were a byproduct of her wanting to share her freedom with her family. She was the ultimate Matriarch\, although she never gave birth\, she freed her mother\, her father\, and her brothers and cousins. \nLiberation: Harriet realized that liberation should be for everyone\, and although she started her journeys to free her family\, she began to see the bigger picture and sought freedom for all enslaved people. She was a warrior for Liberation. \nCommunity Service: Harriet served as a Nurse\, a Spy for the Union\, a General leading raids to free the enslaved\, and until her old age she had a home for the sick and displaced. She was an icon in Community Service. \nOur goals for the future include a parade\, building a gazebo at Combahee River for the community\, updating the marker to reflect the historical facts of Harriet’s contributions to that mission\, and creating a private trade school for K-8 based on the 5 Pillars of Harriet Tubman. \nThe Black Moses Freedom Festival will provide opportunities for our community to explore\, learn\, and exercise new paradigms of what liberation means through themes of economic empowerment\, agricultural equality\, art\, wellness imperatives\, culture\, and community. \nJune 7\, 2024 3pm – 9pm \nWelcome of the Drum\, Libation Ceremony\, Open Mic Jam Session \nJune 8th \nKayaking Combahee River Tour 10am\, Combahee River Tour (Bus w/ Patt Gunn) 11am\, Festival 12pm-6pm\, Sip & Paint Event at Gullah Art Gallery 4pm\, Liberation Mixer/Performances 7:30-11pm \nJune 9th \nSunday Salutations: yoga\, meditation\, sound bowls\, acupuncture 12pm-2pm. 2pm: Tea Tasting and Brunch with Wayne of Ashford Tea Company inside Sandies at the Gullah Jazz Cafe at the BCBCC. \nTo purchase tickets to the event\, and to selected workshops and activities\, visit www.blackmosesfreedomfestival.com \nFor more information about this event\, including vending\, performances\, workshops and sponsorship opportunities\, please call 404-797-6222. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/922587519211858/
