DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, August 21st at 12pm\, the public is invited to join us at Beaufort National Cemetery for the unclaimed committal service for PV1 Rex Edward Bills. Rex is a US Army veteran who recently passed away at the age of 63. \nThis is not an unclaimed veteran service in the traditional sense. Due to unavoidable circumstances\, the family cannot claim their loved one. In cases like this\, the VA steps in to ensure the veteran receives the burial benefit and military honors they are entitled to.

SUMMARY:Volunteer: Oyster Reef Build with SCDNR
DESCRIPTION:Get muddy with us as we volunteer with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ Oyster Recycling and Enhancement program (SCDNR SCORE) to restore oyster reefs along the Beaufort River! \nWHAT TO EXPECT:While reef builds are a blast\, they are labor intensive! Expect to get muddy and wet\, be in the sun\, and get some exercise. Volunteers should be capable of and enjoy working in soft pluff mud while lifting and passing up to 40-pound bags of oyster shell and wire cages. \nWe will meet at the Parris Island Boat Ramp (off-base) located at 21 Marina Blvd to sign volunteer waivers\, meet SCDNR’s oyster restoration crew\, learn about the importance of oyster reefs to our coastal environment\, and hear the game plan for the day. Following the briefing\, we will load the material onto the boats and head out to the site for the restoration. \nWHAT TO WEAR/BRING:– Closed-toe shoes. Rainboots/ muck boots are recommended. If you do not have boots\, old sneakers will work. No sandals!– Clothes you don’t mind getting muddy or stained.– Hat– Sunscreen– Reusable water bottle – there will be a water cooler to refill.– I recommend leaving a set of clean clothes in your car to change into after the build \nRegistration required as there is limited space\, and we need an accurate headcount for the boats. \n— \nPlease note\, this is challenging\, but rewarding\, work. If this is not within your wheelhouse\, please check out our other volunteer and event opportunities here! \n— \nShould we need to cancel due to weather\, an email will be sent the evening prior to the event. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Office Hours\, a back-to-school exhibition at the USCB Center for the Arts featuring work by new faculty Emma Barnes McClure and her painting students. Light refreshments will be provided.  \n5:30 – 7:30 pm \nShow statement : \nOffice hours are typically reserved for faculty to meet with students\, allotted time for advising and mentoring. For art professors\, office hours extend into their studio practice\, where they explore techniques and concepts to enrich their pedagogy. This collaborative exhibition celebrates the creative exchange between Instructor Emma Barnes and her painting students. As Barnes navigates the intersections of painting\, plaster and photography\, she explores the narrative and material possibilities of her work. Barnes’s students reflect bold\, experimental leaps of their own – each testing the expansive boundaries of painting.
