This lively event marks the official start of Spring and boating season\, all while embracing the timeless spirit of defiance and renewal.We are proud to partner with the Warrior Sailing\, a program of the USMMA Sailing Foundation\, Inc. a 501(c)3 public foundation.All proceeds raised during the event will go to support the organizations efforts to provides maritime education for wounded\, ill\, and injured veterans\, to support wellness\, recovery and reintegration. \nSocks to the Flame is a beloved community tradition rooted in maritime lore and created by our dear friend and fellow sailor\, Bob Turner. It’s a joyful way to welcome the warmth and promise of spring while ceremoniously shooing away the chill of winter. \nThe day begins with a Community 5K Run/Walk at 9:00 AM\, inviting runners and walkers of all levels to come together for a great cause. Registration is $35 for Adults and $15 for Youth (ages 15 and under)\, with all proceeds benefiting Warrior Sailing\, supporting veterans through sailing\, education\, and community. \nThe celebration continues in the afternoon with the Maritime Sock Burning Celebration from 3:00–6:00 PM—a time-honored sailor’s tradition symbolizing the official end of winter and the hopeful turn toward brighter\, breezier days ahead. DESCRIPTION:Five distinctive homes in Beaufort’s National Historic Landmark District\, on Dataw Island and on St. Helena Island will open to the public to showcase the best in innovative\, contemporary architecture in Historic Beaufort Foundation’s annual Spring Architects’ Tour March 21. \nThe tour is from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.\, rain or shine. Tickets are $70 per person for HBF members and $75 per person for non-members; tickets are available online at www.historicbeaufort.org. \nThe Spring Architects’ Tour supports HBF’s mission to preserve and protect Beaufort’s historic and architectural heritage. The event is the Lowcountry’s only tour presenting the rare opportunity to peek inside private homes as architects\, builders\, designers and owners share their expertise. \n“We appreciate the homeowners’ willingness to share their properties as part of our Spring Architects’ Tour and in support of Historic Beaufort Foundation\,” said HBF Executive Director Lise Sundrla. “Not only do guests get to look inside the homes\, but the architects\, builders and interior designers will talk about the choices made to create these exceptional homes.” \nThis year’s tour features homes designed by three of Beaufort’s acclaimed architectural firms –Frederick & Frederick Architects\, Hefner Residential Architecture\, and Montgomery Architecture & Planning.   \n“From Historic Beaufort Foundation’s perspective\, this is always a great way to invite the community in to see some amazing home designs in the Lowcountry\,” said Rob Montgomery\, HBF chair. \n“It is a nice event that supports HBF and its mission\, and speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees\, we are most appreciative of the homeowners who open their homes to the tour. Speaking as an architect included on this year’s tour\, I’m proud to share our work and I look forward to explaining some of the choices we made and challenges we faced in our design\,” he said. \nThis is primarily a self-driven tour. Golf carts and/or trolley service will be available in certain locations.  Also\, as a part of the day’s event this year\, the Dataw Historic Foundation will provide tours of their History Museum and Learning Center and the Sams Plantation Ruins.  \n“We appreciate our partnership with Dataw Island and the Dataw Historic Foundation\,” Sundrla said. “The Sams Plantation ruins include outstanding examples of tabby construction dating back to the late 1700s.” The ruins were listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Her poems have appeared in many periodicals and anthologies\, and twice\, in Best American Poetry. She serves on the Board of Directors of Poets House and teaches poetry workshops for the International Women’s Writing Guild.
