SUMMARY:19th Annual Soft Shell Crab Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Old Village Association in Port Royal has announced the date for this year’s 19th Annual Soft Shell Crab Festival. Perhaps one of the most wildly popular local events\, the big day is on Saturday\, April 20th from 11am to 5pm. \nIn a coastal community like Beaufort\, Port Royal and the sea islands\, our seafood is special to us and folks love soft shell crabs and look forward to the brief season that they’re available each year. The annual party on the streets of Port Royal offers us all a day of fun celebrating the season. \nThousands flock to Paris Avenue to enjoy food and friends. Every year\, the event offers live music all day with a number of local bands\, a classic car show\, kids’ entertainment\, a variety of talented craft vendors…and even a charity crab race. \n“This year’s annual Soft Shell Crab Festival will be like no other\,” OVA said in a release. “Expect to see MORE soft shell crab vendors\, who will be preparing their crabs in variety of ways.” \nOne fun day each April to celebrate a season that lasts approximately three weeks? \nOf course. \nThis is one super special local season\, and the Soft Shell Festival is one super special local event.

SUMMARY:Gary Sinise & Lt. Dan Band Free Public Concert at MCAS Beaufort
DESCRIPTION:Renowned actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Beaufort International Film Festival scheduled for February 20-25\, 2024\, in Beaufort\, SC. \nBut before he accepts it\, he’ll be putting on a free concert with the Lt. Dan Band for everyone to enjoy aboard the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort. \nAccording to MCAS Beaufort\, the free concert is scheduled for Friday\, February 23rd starting at 6pm\, with the gates opening at 5pm. \nFor over forty years Gary has stood as an advocate on behalf of America’s service members\, but following the attacks of September 11\, 2001\, Gary’s dedication to our nation’s active duty defenders\, veterans\, first responders and their families has become a tireless crusade of support\, service and gratitude for all those who protect our freedom and serve our country. \nIn 2003\, after several USO handshake tours\, he formed the Lt. Dan Band and began entertaining troops serving at home and abroad. Over the years\, the 13 piece cover band has performed hundreds of shows for charities and fundraisers supporting wounded heroes\, Gold Star families\, veterans and troops around the world. \nIt’s fitting that the concert is taking place aboard the Marine Corps Air Station. \nIn 2011\, in an effort to expand his individual efforts\, he established the Gary Sinise Foundation with the mission to serve and honor America’s defenders\, veterans\, first responders\, Gold Star families and those in need. \nSinise and his Lt. Dan Band have performed in Beaufort before. Back in 2011\, the band put on a fantastic show at downtown Beaufort’s Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. They were also scheduled to return in 2012\, but that concert was moved to Charleston in the weeks leading up to the event. \nAn opening act\, yet to be announced\, will perform at 6pm\, and then Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band will take the stage afterward. \nThe event is outside\, and concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets\, lawn chairs\, strollers and wagons. Concessions will be available for purchase from food trucks and beer tents. \nIf you plan to attend\, please remember this is a U.S. Military installation\, and there are several no-nos to consider. \nFor more information\, and to grab your free tickets before they’re gone\, visit this link.

Chambers Waterfront Park\, and it includes a bit of everything for everyone. \nBut\, if you plan to attend the free event\, you’ll need to consider bundling up. \nSaturday’s high temperature in Beaufort will be around 45°\, with a low of 24°. Sunday’s high will be 44°\, with a low of 31°. \nThe event opens with a 5K\, appropriately named the “Oyster Boogie\,” through the streets of historic downtown\, and the festival offers free admission\, live music and lots more. \nSaturday\, January 20th 10am-6pm\nLive Music from 4 local bands all day long.\n10am – 12th Street\n12pm – Southbound 17\n2pm – The Boondockers\n4pm – Shan Tan & The Oyster Reefers \nSunday\, January 21st 11am-4pm\nLive Music from 2 local bands all day long.\n11am – Campfire Tyler\n1pm – The Fabulous Clams\nCornhole Tournament – 1pm\nBring your own partner double elimination cornhole tournament to support the kids at Riverview Charter School. Plus\, you can even sign up for an Oyster Festival Eco-Tour with Coastal Expeditions. \nOn both days\, the Beaufort Oyster Festival menu options will include steamed\, raw\, roasted and fried oysters\, as well as other food options for those that love a festival but don’t love oysters\, which are definitely an acquired taste. \nAll oysters served at the festival are all locally farmed or harvested from local Lowcountry waters\, lending support to area fishermen and the Lowcountry way of life. \nOne of the things you’ll notice about the Lowcountry is how much we enjoy having fun. Locals enjoy sharing a good time with our neighbors\, and proof of that is the wealth of community festivals hosted each and every year. \nIn an area with so much history and tradition\, we celebrate everything from the water\, to food\, to our lifestyle and our culture. \nAnd\, this weekend’s Oyster Festival fits right in! \nThe massive two-day Oyster Festival is a celebration of community and the bounty of the sea. Two things very near to the heart of folks that call the Lowcountry their home.

SUMMARY:Beaufort Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:After a COVID-19 hiatus\, just like nearly everything else\, the annual Beaufort Memorial Day Parade is back\, scheduled for Monday\, May 30th at 10am. \nThe parade will follow the traditional route along Boundary Street from Rogers Street\, onto Carteret Street\, Bay Street and then back to Rogers Street ending at the Beaufort National Cemetery. \nAt noon\, a ceremony to commemorate all those in the military who lost their lives in service to our Country will be held at the Beaufort National Ceremony. The keynote speaker will be Cmdr. LaDonna M. Simpson\, who is the commanding officer of the USS Carter Hall\, a Navy ship used in amphibious assaults\, among other things. \nCmdr. Simpson’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal\, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards)\, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards)\, and the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (two awards). \nMemorial Day is for honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military fighting for our liberty and freedom. \nIt’s not a day for celebrating. It’s a day for remembering. \nOriginally known as Decoration Day\, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials\, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially\, it marks the beginning of the summer season. \nAll are encouraged to come to Beaufort’s Memorial Day parade and honor those that have fallen for our Country. \nIf you are interested in participating\, please call Elijah Washington at 843-263-4620. \n  \nFor more info\, visit this link. \nFor more upcoming events\, visit our Event Calendar.
