DESCRIPTION:For the 13th year\, First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort will present a free weekend-long Annual Nativity Celebration on December 6-8\, featuring more than 150 different nativity scenes from around the world. \n“This year is so special as we have been offered two very large collections to display alongside many of people’s annual favorites\,” said Donna Sheetz\, First Presbyterian’s Volunteer Nativity Event Coordinator. “One is a very unique collection from 95-year-old Lady’s Island resident Ann Errington\, who has been collecting since she was a little girl.” \nErrington’s collection includes nearly 50 worldly nativities. Like many who share nativities for this annual display\, Errington was inspired by last year’s Nativity Celebration and wanted to gift hers from around her home and in her attic for all to enjoy. \nSheetz said First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort is preparing for more than 700 adults and children for this community-wide Advent tradition. Like other pieces of art\, many collectors have a story to share – some nativity collectors have grand stories of travel\, gifts\, or inheritance\, while others found their treasures in a local thrift store. \n“Whether you want to bring your spouse\, friends or grandchild – this weekend-long display is a great way to slow down\, reflect\, learn about other cultures\, and begin the anticipating season of Christmas\,” said Sheetz. \nThe Nativity Celebration will be located in historic downtown Beaufort in the First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort’s Fellowship Hall located at 1201 North Street\, Beaufort\, SC 29902. In The 30 Day Guide to Inner Peace\, Madison shares the method that helped him find his own inner peace through an immersion into positive life changes\, a day at a time\, for 30 days. \nEach day offers a message and a practice. DESCRIPTION:For the 13th year\, First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort will present a free weekend-long Annual Nativity Celebration on December 6-8\, featuring more than 150 different nativity scenes from around the world. \n“This year is so special as we have been offered two very large collections to display alongside many of people’s annual favorites\,” said Donna Sheetz\, First Presbyterian’s Volunteer Nativity Event Coordinator. “One is a very unique collection from 95-year-old Lady’s Island resident Ann Errington\, who has been collecting since she was a little girl.” \nErrington’s collection includes nearly 50 worldly nativities. Like many who share nativities for this annual display\, Errington was inspired by last year’s Nativity Celebration and wanted to gift hers from around her home and in her attic for all to enjoy. \nSheetz said First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort is preparing for more than 700 adults and children for this community-wide Advent tradition. Like other pieces of art\, many collectors have a story to share – some nativity collectors have grand stories of travel\, gifts\, or inheritance\, while others found their treasures in a local thrift store. \n“Whether you want to bring your spouse\, friends or grandchild – this weekend-long display is a great way to slow down\, reflect\, learn about other cultures\, and begin the anticipating season of Christmas\,” said Sheetz. \nThe Nativity Celebration will be located in historic downtown Beaufort in the First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort’s Fellowship Hall located at 1201 North Street\, Beaufort\, SC 29902. SUMMARY:Monthly Teddy Bear Picnic Read-Aloud with DAYLO
DESCRIPTION:On the first Saturday of every month\, you can join the student volunteers of DAYLO: Diversity Awareness Youth Literacy Organization for a Teddy Bear Picnic read-aloud at the Port Royal Farmers Market (1615 Ribaut Rd.). In collaboration with the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center\, high school and college student volunteers from the Beaufort-based chapters of DAYLO gather at the gazebo in Naval Heritage Park from 9:30 a.m. to noon to read diverse\, inclusive picture books to children and their families\, inspiring a love of stories\, books\, reading\, and peer-to-peer mentoring. \nCozy blankets\, a plethora of stuffed animals\, and some snacks help the students make a welcoming environment in this free community literacy program. Several times a year\, National Park Service Ranger Katherine Freeman also joins in for Read with a Ranger\, a literacy and art project thematically connected to the missions of DAYLO\, the Conroy Center\, and the Reconstruction Era National Historic Park. \nDAYLO is a student-led diversity themed book club and community service group founded at Beaufort High School and now with chapters across South Carolina.
