DESCRIPTION:The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium will host the inaugural Maritime Days festival on Saturday\, June 29th\, 2024\, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Port Royal Sound Foundation in Okatie\, S.C. \nThis family-friendly event is free to the public and will showcase the vibrant culture and ecosystem services of Port Royal Sound\, with a focus on marine debris education and prevention. \nVendors from the surrounding community will provide educational talks on marine debris prevention and removal\, fishing best practices\, seafood sourcing and maritime cultural heritage. Interactive demonstrations and activities include a fishing clinic\, oral historian and musical performances\, sweetgrass basket weaving\, a presentation on the heritage and future of the shrimping industry and seafood cooking demos from chefs Amethyst Ganaway and James London. DESCRIPTION:Locals and folks visiting the Beaufort area are again in for a treat as the Town of Port Royal will be putting on its Independence Day Celebration and fireworks at the Sands Beach for the 4th of July. \nAfter your done with the day of boating\, relaxing\, barbecuing and having fun with family and friends\, get on down to The Sands for more fun and fireworks. \nThe festivities at The Sands usually start earlier in the afternoon\, and you’ll enjoy lots of family fun including good eats and drinks that will help combat the heat we usually have here in the Lowcountry. \nLocal Boy Scouts will be on hand serving hot dogs and burgers\, and food trucks will be lined up on hand to quench your thirst and to offer more goodies. Enjoy fare from Fly Pies\, Lawyers BBQ\, Snack Shack\, and Tropical Treasures. \nLive entertainment starts later in the day with DJ Kev Greaves\, and the Iron Mic Parris Island Marine Band will perform from 8pm until the fireworks start. \nFree parking on Paris Avenue and side streets will be available and the road to the Sands landing is usually shut down prior to the 4th of July for all traffic including boats with trailers. 7th Street is typically closed to all traffic except for residents that live on that street. \nThe fireworks at The Sands are put on by East Coast Pyrotechnics and usually begin around 915pm. \nYes\, what better way to celebrate the 4th of July in Beaufort than fireworks\, family fun and community at the Sands in Port Royal. \nIt’s a lot of fun and you won’t find a better place to enjoy a night of celebrating than with fireworks at the Sands Beach.

You won’t want to miss Shannon Tanner’s family show from 6:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.\, followed by a special patriotic Parrot Palooza Sunset Celebration with Shannon Tanner & the Oyster Reefers starting at 7:15 p.m.\, along with kids activities with Cappy the Clown from 6 – 9 p.m.! Additionally\, children will enjoy bounce houses & train rides around the promenade (for an additional cost) starting at 6:00 pm! \nTo ensure a safe and smooth entry and exit from the event for the July 4th celebration\, Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina offers a free shuttle from the parking lot at the Hargray building near Fresh Market for attendees to be shuttled to the HarbourFest events from 5:30-10:30 pm. DESCRIPTION:Reconstruction Era National Historical Park invites the public to experience sunrise on St. Helena Island with a ranger guided nature walk along the Capers Creek Nature Trail at the Penn Center National Historic Landmark District on Saturday July 13 at 6:30 am.\n\nThe walk will begin at Darrah Hall and last around 1-hour and cover approximately 1-mile of walking.\n\nDuring this walk\, the public will have the opportunity to interact with park staff and volunteers as we experience the coastal marsh coming to life on the dawn of a new day. Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle\, wear long pants and closed toed shoes\, and wear insect repellent. The park will have binoculars to loan out for the walk\, but participants are invited to bring their own as well.\n\nWalk in the footsteps of Martin Luther King Jr. and the students of the Penn School on the Capers Creek Trail through the woods of Saint Helena Island that leads to a sweeping view of the marshes and the Retreat House built by the Penn Center for Dr. King. The house was finished in 1968 just months after MLK Jr. was assassinated\, so he was never able to stay in the house. \nAlong the trail\, learn and observe the natural habitat of Saint Helena Island.
