SUMMARY:Friends of Beaufort Library Fall Book Sale
DESCRIPTION:It’s almost time to get some good books without dipping too deep into the wallet as the Friends of the Beaufort Library will hold its Annual Fall Book Sale on November 1st through the 3rd\, at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park in downtown Beaufort. \nAt the sale\, over 40\,000 gently used books\, music\, movies and audio books will be available for sale at bargain prices with hardbacks a mere $2 and most paperbacks selling at 50 cents each. \nAll sorts of books will be at the sale from cooking and gardening to the occult and metaphysical. Fiction and mystery are the largest and most popular categories and rare and collectible books include a large selection of local Lowcountry authors and topics. \nOn Friday\, November 1st\, a private sale for all members of the Friends will be held early in the day. If you’re interested in becoming a member\, you can sign up any time before or during the pre-sale to gain access to the pre-sale for only $25 per household\, and only $15 if you are a military household. \nThe Friends of the Beaufort Library annual book sale will open to the general public on Friday\, November 1st from 11am to 8pm\, and will reopen on Saturday from 9am to 6pm. The book sale will reopen from 10am to 3pm on Sunday\, during which time ALL books and audio-visual items will be half-price\, including the big selection of rare and collectible books. Book lovers of all stripes show up to scavenge for their favorites\, some grabbing up 10 books at a time\, so you need to get there early for the best possible selection. \nThe first Friends of the Beaufort Library book sale in 1987 produced $900 in book sales. Now\, this fundraiser generates half the Friends of the Beaufort Library’s total income which goes right back to the Library itself. \nFor more info on the sale\, or to become a member of Friends of the Beaufort Library\, visit this link.

SUMMARY:Fort Fremont Harvest Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Fort Fremont are excited to announce the 2nd Annual Fort Fremont Harvest\nFestival on Sunday\, November 3 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Fort Fremont Preserve\, 1124\nLand’s End Road\, St. Helena Island\, SC. \nVisitors are invited to step back in time to 1910…with period games for children and adults\,\nmusic\, food\, crafts\, and people dressed in era-appropriate costumes welcoming visitors to\nEdwardian Fort Fremont. \nThere is no admission fee. Food and crafts will be available for purchase. \nFree shuttle service will be provided from Land’s End Woodlands Road\, just one mile from the Preserve. \nThis year’s event is bigger and better than last year. There will be more favorite local food\nvendors\, more history displays from area non-profits including a demonstration on the Carolina rice culture\, and more hands-on activities such as decorating your own hat and making corn husk dolls. \nThere may even be an appearance by the famous Fort Fremont baseball team. \nFort Fremont was constructed in 1898 during the Spanish-American War for coastal defense of the Port Royal Sound and the Naval Station at Parris Island. Beaufort County purchased 18-acres of the original fort for use as a passive park. The site encompasses mixed hardwood forest with walking trails\, a picnic pavilion\, remains of historic batteries\, and a History Center with a diorama and period artifacts. \nThe Preserve is open to the public free of charge Monday through Sunday from dawn to dusk. The History Center exhibit hall is open Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday and staffed by Friends of Fort Fremont volunteers. \nThe Friends of Fort Fremont work with Beaufort County to preserve and promote Fort Fremont’s educational\, historical\, natural\, and cultural resources and to interpret Fort Fremont’s history for visitors. For more information visit www.fortfremont.org.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Nancy Murray\, Author of No Experience Necessary
DESCRIPTION:The nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center will host an evening with memoirist Nancy Murray\, author of No Experience Necessary\, on Friday\, November 15\, at 5:00 p.m.\, at the Conroy Center (601 Bladen St.\, Beaufort). Free and open to the public. Books will be available for sale and signing. Seating is limited; please call in advance to reserve: 843-379-7025. \nAbout the Book and Author:In No Experience Necessary\, Nancy Murray shares the insights\, pitfalls\, and strategies that she gleaned along her journey toward meaningful employment. Her stories prove that even so-called nowhere jobs can be crucial steps to not only establishing a career\, but to discovering ourselves. \nNancy’s workplace tales span a colorful spectrum\, from selling speakers from a seedy van to driving a posh limo; from performing as a professional clown to financial advisor. With each job she profited in ways beyond a traditional paycheck. \nSome might consider this a cautionary tale\, but it’s also a field guide for anyone preparing to fill out their first job application\, not to mention a humorous flashback for those who recall the trials and tribulations of the workplace all too well. \n“Through the many jobs—both ordinary and extraordinary— in this memoir of working\, Nancy Murray shows not only how willing she is to take a chance and fail\, but to grow from those failures with her trademark blend of humor and humility. What really stands out\, however\, is her prose—like a long lunch with a good friend\, there is never a dull moment.”—Jen Michalski\, author of The Company of Strangers \n“No Experience Necessary is an extraordinary account of what it means to work. In vivid and engaging prose\, the book illuminates the struggles and triumphs of insisting on a creative life. A tightly-focused and engaging memoir\, this is an amazing read!” —Kathy Flann\,award-winning author of Smoky Ordinary and Write On: Secrets to Crafting Better Stories \nNancy Murray is a poet\, playwright\, and storyteller. Her first memoir\, One Child for Another\, was published by 11th Hour Press\, and was recognized by Baltimore Magazine as one of the Ten Best Reads in 2015. Her storytelling was showcased by the Women of the World Festival in Baltimore\, Maryland. Nancy’s plays and poetry have been produced and published in various venues and presses including\, Ireland’s HCE Review\, The Maryland State Poetry and Literary Society\, and in multiple anthologies. Her most recent publication\, a poetry collection called The Colors of Fear\, waspublished by Cyberwit Press. She teaches compositional writing at the Community College of Baltimore County and hosts a series of poetry workshops at the Arts Lab of South County\, Maryland.
