SUMMARY:An Evening with Bestselling Novelist Colleen Oakley\, Author of Jane and Dan at the End of the World
DESCRIPTION:The nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center will host an evening with USA Today bestselling novelist Colleen Oakley\, author of Jane and Dan at the End of the World\, on Friday\, April 4\, at 5:00 p.m.\, at Conroy Center (601 Bladen St.\, Beaufort). Oakley will be joined in conversation by Conroy Center executive director Jonathan Haupt. Free and open to the public. Books will be available for sale and signing. Please call to reserve your seat in advance: 843-379-7025. \nAbout the Novel: Date night goes off the rails in this hilariously insightful take on midlife and marriage when one unhappy couple find themselves at the heart of a crime in progress\, from the USA Today bestselling author of The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise. \nJane and Dan have been married for nineteen years\, but Jane isn’t sure they’re going to make it to twenty. The mother of two feels unneeded by her teenagers\, and her writing career has screeched to an unsuccessful halt. Her one published novel sold under five hundred copies. Worse? She’s pretty sure Dan is cheating on her. When the couple goes to the renowned upscale restaurant La Fin du Monde to celebrate their anniversary\, Jane thinks it’s as good a place as any to tell Dan she wants a divorce. \nBut before they even get to the second course\, an underground climate activist group bursts into the dining room. Jane is shocked—and not just because she’s in a hostage situation the likes of which she’s only seen in the movies. Nearly everything the disorganized and bumbling activists say and do is right out of the pages of her failed book. Even Dan (who Jane wasn’t sure even read her book) admits it’s eerily familiar. \nWhich means Dan and Jane are the only ones who know what’s going to happen next. And they’re the only ones who can stop it. This wasn’t what Jane was thinking of when she said “’til death do us part” all those years ago\, but if they can survive this\, maybe they can survive anything—even marriage. \n“Jane and Dan at the End of the World is a triumph! Poignant\, darkly funny\, and mind-bendingly twisty at every turn. With each new chapter\, I felt more invested in Jane and Dan\, the fate of their marriage\, and the outcome of their shocking predicament. SUMMARY:Skye Peterson in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a night filled with beautiful\, soulful music by the talented Skye Peterson. The concert begins at 7 pm at St Helena’s Anglican Church in Beaufort\, SC. Bring your friends and family along for a memorable evening of melodies and good vibes. Childcare is available upon request. Buy your tickets today! \nDoors: 6:30 pm Show: 7 pm \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-of-music-with-skye-peterson-tickets-1257168858899?aff=oddtdtcreator \nSkye Peterson is a singer-songwriter from Nashville\, TN who loves Jesus and daffodils. As much as she likes answers\, her music is a journal entry full of questions\, stories. Even as she wrestles and wonders\, she feels an urge to sing about spring in December\, light on darker days\, and love during lonely weeks. She released her first album “Where The Winter Was” in 2023 after studying theology in England and Kentucky. \nSplitting her time between touring and writing hymns for Getty Music\, Skye also finished recording her second album “All The Difference”\, which was voted “Best Christian Album” by The Gospel Coalition. During that time\, Skye’s hymn “I Am Not My Own” was nominated for a Dove award\, and she released many other songs for the local church while continuing to tour her solo album. \nIn late 2024\, Skye and Addison Agen launched a new band called Fielder\, an alternative-folk duo with songs that are spirited\, heartfelt\, and thoughtful. The full album will be released in July 2025.

SUMMARY:Beaufort Human Library -- Fifth Edition
DESCRIPTION:Check Out the Fifth Edition of the Beaufort Human Library\, April 6 \n“Where oral history meets speed dating.” The Beaufort Human Library project promotes empathy and understanding across communities by offering the public opportunities to “check out” more than a dozen volunteer Human Books who will be sharing their personal stories of facing challenges and striving for acceptance. These engaging conversations will cover topics including education\, military service\, healthcare\, gender\, race\, addiction\, abuse\, and advocacy\, among others. The dialogues focus on building bridges of understanding\, person to person\, through storytelling. \nThe Beaufort Human Library will be held on opening day of National Library Week: Sunday\, April 6\, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in MacLean Hall\, building 12 of the Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL)\, at 104 Reynolds Street in Beaufort. Free and open to the public\, the event is hosted by TCL; the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center; DAYLO: Diversity Awareness Youth Literacy Organization; and volunteer community organizers. \nThe afternoon begins at 1:00-1:45 p.m. with this year’s featured Human Books\, sisters Lynn Bryant and Victoria Smalls. Following that featured conversation\, all the volunteer Human Books will be available throughout MacLean Hall to be checked out for 30-minute small group conversations from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. \nAttendees (the “Readers”) may choose to participate in a new conversation every half-hour throughout the afternoon. Advance registration is not required\, nor are attendees required to stay for the whole afternoon. Check out just one Human Book\, or four\, or any number in between. Volunteer Librarians and student Bookmarks from DAYLO will be on hand to help guests navigate their Beaufort Human Library experience and answer questions. \nIn addition to Lynn Bryant and Victoria Smalls\, this year’s Human Books include community members Paulette Edwards\, Ashley Gardner\, Karen Gareis\, Col. Richard Geier (U.S.A. ret.)\, Marie Gibbs\, Connie Hipp\, Gwenn McClune\, Gene Rugala\, Sissy the Entertainer\, and Beth Young. \nTo learn more about the Beaufort Human Library\, please visit www.facebook.com/beauforthumanlibrary.
