DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Fort Fremont are excited to announce the 4th Annual Fort Fremont Harvest Festival on Sunday\, November 8th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Fort Fremont Preserve\, 1124 Land’s End Road\, St. Helena Island\, SC. \nVisitors are invited to step back in time to 1898 with period games for children and adults\, music\, food\, crafts\, nature exhibits\, history exhibits\, and lots more. \nThis year\, Teddy Roosevelt will lead the kids in a charge up San Juan Hill\, recreating the famous battle during the Spanish-American War\, in which the future 26th President became famous for leading. \nThere is no admission fee. Food and crafts will be available for purchase. This year’s food vendors are Beedo’s and Gullah Grub. \nFree shuttle service will be provided from Land’s End Woodlands Road\, just one mile from the Preserve. \nFort Fremont was constructed in 1898 during the Spanish-American War for coastal defense of the Port Royal Sound and the Naval Station at Parris Island. Beaufort County purchased 18-acres of the original fort for use as a passive park. The site encompasses mixed hardwood forest with walking trails\, a picnic pavilion\, remains of historic batteries\, and a History Center with a diorama and period artifacts. \nThe Preserve is open to the public free of charge Monday through Sunday from dawn to dusk. The History Center exhibit hall is open Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday and staffed by Friends of Fort Fremont volunteers. \nThe Friends of Fort Fremont work with Beaufort County to preserve and promote Fort Fremont’s educational\, historical\, natural\, and cultural resources and to interpret Fort Fremont’s history for visitors. DESCRIPTION:Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day\, we stand united in respect for our veterans and their service to America. In celebration\, the Beaufort County Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting the 2026 Veterans Day Parade through downtown Beaufort on Wednesday\, November 11th. \nThe parade will begin with the lineup of floats\, bands and civic groups at 8am on Adventure Street and officially starts at 10am. It will follow the traditional route and end at the intersection of Boundary and Bladen Streets after a full “loop\,” covering Boundary\, Carteret\, Bay and Bladen Streets. \nRetired Marine Corps Lt. Col. William Rivers “Skeet” Von Harten will serve as grand marshal of the 2026 Beaufort County Veterans Day Parade. Von Harten is a Beaufort native who began his military service at age 17 when he enlisted in the South Carolina National Guard. He is a graduate of Beaufort High School and The Citadel\, where he earned a degree in business administration before receiving his commission in the U.S. Marine Corps. \nDuring his 20-year Marine Corps career\, Von Harten served two tours in Vietnam. His military decorations include the Silver Star\, the Purple Heart and two Bronze Star Medals — one for valor and one for meritorious service in combat. During his second Vietnam tour\, he commanded the 3rd Battalion\, 4th Marines\, leading his Marines during fighting against the North Vietnamese offensive in 1972. He retired as a lieutenant colonel. \nIn last year’s parade\, more than 40 community groups and individuals submitted applications to participate with floats\, bands or walking groups. \nEvery community group\, children’s group\, civic organization\, and community member is encouraged to show their community spirit and our veterans how much they are appreciated. \nParticipants can find application on the County website. DESCRIPTION:The Cat’s Meow is proud to present its first annual “Broadway by Candlelight”. Auditions will be by appointment on the following days: \nFriday\, November 13Sunday\, November 15With Callbacks as necessary \nTo audition\, you must be 16+ (preferably can drive yourself) and both an impressive soloist and someone who can sing harmony in a group or duet. I am unsure how many people I will cast. It will genuinely depend on what I think the best blend will be. \n“Broadway by Candlelight”\, which was hugely successful in Atlanta and became an annual Valentine’s Day event\, is a musical in honor of love\, but with a twist. All different types of love are represented – romantic love\, of course\, but also sisterly love\, love for a pet\, etc. See “Times Like This” and “The Phone Call” from “Lucky Stiff”\, for example (and then hopefully come to see the show in our black box next year!). Performers will be in black tie (ladies in black evening gowns and white opera gloves and gentlemen in tuxedos)\, and the entire production will be performed – you guessed it – entirely by candlelight. \nFor auditions\, please prepare a song that shows off your range and is appropriate for the show. Bonus points for clever songs about a non-romantic kind of love! I will also have you learn the harmony for a duet. The sheet music will be sent when you make your audition appointment. \nThe show will be cast in November with the intention that the performers work on their music on their own and show up to rehearsals in January with everything memorized and ready to go. This will help us keep rehearsals to a minimum – I am hopeful that we can put the show up in approximately 4 rehearsals total\, but that’s why it’s very important that auditioners be able to learn music on their own (with demo vocals I will provide) and/or with help from their vocal coach. \nAny questions? What started in the late 1990s as a kids’ game has grown into one of the world’s most active collectibles markets\, attracting longtime fans\, investors\, and a new generation discovering Pokémon through games\, shows\, and friends. Now\, there is also a massive collectible Pokemon & sports card show on Lady’s Island that is packing the house time after time. \nCollectible Pokemon card shows have exploded in popularity\, driven by the franchise’s 30th anniversary\, massive nostalgia\, and a massive shift in the memorabolia scene. Once dominated solely by sports cards\, modern card shows now feature entire rooms or dedicated vendor tables where Pokémon trading card games (TCG) frequently outnumber traditional sports memorabilia. \n \nMany locals are discovering the bi-monthly Hilton Head Island-Beaufort Card Show at Beaufort Academy on Lady’s Island. It’s pretty darn big.
