SUMMARY:An Evening with NYT Bestselling Novelist Therese Anne Fowler\, Author of It All Comes Down to This
DESCRIPTION:The Beaufort Bookstore\, in partnership with the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center\, will host an evening with New York Times and USA Today bestselling novelist Therese Anne Fowler\, author of It All Comes Down to This\, in conversation with Conroy Center executive director Jonathan Haupt. This free event will be held on Tuesday\, August 30\, at 5:00 p.m.\, at 2127 Boundary St.\, Ste 15. Books will be available for sale and signing. Call Beaufort Bookstore to reserve your seat: 843-525-1066. \nThe author conversation will also be live-streamed on the Conroy Center Facebook page. \nAbout It All Comes Down to This\n“Can you say perfect porch read?”―CNN.com \n“Fowler has done it again.”―GMA.com \n“A tightly coiled family saga…Fowler expertly peels back the layers of each character in this page-turner\, making for a highly entertaining summer read.”―Booklist \n“A smart and lively novel\, one that had me turning its pages faster and faster\, wondering if this indelible family could really untangle the deep lies that reveal an even deeper truth.”―Jess Walter\, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Beautiful Ruins \nMeet the Geller sisters: Beck\, Claire\, and Sophie\, a trio of strong-minded women whose pragmatic\, widowed mother\, Marti\, will be dying soon. Her will directs that the family’s summer cottage on Mount Desert Island\, Maine\, must be sold\, the proceeds split equally between the three girls. \nBeck\, the eldest\, is a freelance journalist whose marriage looks more like a sibling bond than a passionate partnership. In fact\, her husband Paul is hiding a troubling truth about his love life. For Beck\, the Maine cottage has been essential to her secret wish to write a novel––and to remake the terms of her relationship. \nDespite her accomplishments as a pediatric cardiologist\, Claire\, the middle daughter\, has always felt like the Geller misfit. Recently divorced\, Claire’s secret unrequited love for the wrong man is slowly destroying her\, and she’s finding that her expertise on matters of the heart unfortunately doesn’t extend to her own. \nYoungest daughter Sophie appears to live an Instagram-ready life\, filled with glamorous work and travel\, celebrities\, fashion\, art\, and sex. In reality\, her existence is a cash-strapped house of cards that may crash at any moment. \nEnter C.J. Reynolds\, an enigmatic southerner ex con with his own hidden past who complicates the situation. All is not what it seems\, and everything is about to change. \nAbout Therese Anne Fowler\nTherese Anne Fowler is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of several novels\, including A Good Neighborhood and A Well-Behaved Woman\, both finalists for the Southern Book Prize for fiction. Her novel Z was adapted as a television series starring Christina Ricci as Zelda Fitzgerald. Therese earned a BA in sociology/cultural anthropology and an MFA in creative writing\, both from NC State University. She lives in Raleigh\, NC\, with her husband\, award-winning author John Kessel. \nAbout our Host:\nJonathan Haupt is the executive director of the Pat Conroy Literary Center\, the former director of the University of South Carolina Press\, and coeditor of the anthology Our Prince of Scribes: Writers Remember Pat Conroy\, winner of 17 book awards.

SUMMARY:An Afternoon with Photographer Joshua Parks\, The Green Book of South Carolina
DESCRIPTION:The nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center and the Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce will host a presentation by photographer Joshua Parks on the newly published Green Book of South Carolina: A Guide to African American Historical Sites\, on Saturday\, September 17\, at 1:00 p.m. Beginning with a welcome from Victoria Smalls\, executive director of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor\, this free public event will be held at Sandies at the Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce (711 Bladen St.). Sandies will be open for dine-in or take-out lunches. Books will be available for sale and signing. \nABOUT THE GREEN BOOK OF SOUTH CAROLINA\nSouth Carolina is a state of incredible African American history: from the lunch counter in Rock Hill where the Friendship Nine began their “Jail\, No Bail” protests\, to the site where the freedom song “We Shall Overcome” was first sung; our nation’s very first school for the formerly enslaved\, to a monument to the Middle Passage championed by Toni Morrison. Visitors and residents alike will find the Palmetto State rich in remarkable places that played a part in some of our nation’s most significant moments. The Green Book of South Carolina\, compiled by the WeGOJA Foundation (on behalf of the SC African American Heritage Commission)\, is a first-of-its-kind travel guide to the most tourist-friendly destinations offering visitors avenues to discover intriguing African American history as they travel the state. \nOrganized by region and illustrated with more than 80 color photographs by Joshua Parks\, this guidebook presents a curated selection of over 200 museums\, monuments\, historic markers\, schools\, churches\, and other public lands. \nThe Green Book of South Carolina is a collaborative release by Hub City Press\, the WeGOJA Foundation and the International African American Museum. Sponsored by the City of Spartanburg and Denny’s Corporation. \nABOUT JOSHUA PARKS\nJoshua Parks is a photographer\, documentarian\, community organizer\, and the Digital Programs and Community Engagement Specialist at the International African American Museum. Though Joshua was raised in Jacksonville\, Florida\, his family history is deeply rooted in the Lowcountry\, where he is a direct descendant of Sol Legare Island\, a historic Gullah-Geechee sea island community. He is a graduate of Howard University and is completing his Masters in History at the College of Charleston.
