SUMMARY:Parris Island Band Community Christmas Concert
DESCRIPTION:We always have lots of events around the Beaufort area all year long\, but nothing compares to the fun we get during the holidays. And\, this year is no different. In addition to all of the celebrations\, parades\, and tree lightings\, The Parris Island Marine Band will be performing TWO FREE Christmas concerts for our community to enjoy. \nThe events will take place on Friday\, December 12th at 630pm at Community Bible Church on Parris Island Gateway\, and Sunday\, December 14th\, at 3pm at in Port Royal\, at the corner of Paris venue and 8th Street. Right in the heart of the Old Village. \nJust like they have done each year at downtown Beaufort’s annual Night on the Town Christmas Celebration\, the band will perform a variety of holiday classics for all to enjoy. These are some very talented Marines and we’re glad they put on such a nice\, festive concert every year. \nBeaufort is home to lots of great local bands\, and of course one of them is the 110 year old Parris Island Marine Band\, a local favorite at various Beaufort-area events\, parades and festivals. \nWhile never\, ever showing its age\, the Parris Island Marine Band was established way back on on October 28\, 1915. Its musicians originally doubled as marksmanship instructors\, close combat instructors and provided support for various units on the depot. \nToday\, the Marines of the Parris Island Marine Band make up the concert band\, the marching/ceremonial band\, brass band\, brass quintet\, a rock band\, and a jazz combo. \nThe Parris Island Marine Band’s primary mission is to provide musical support for recruit graduations and other military ceremonies and events. In addition to playing at approximately 40 recruit graduations each year\, the band also performs concerts and parades both locally here in the Beaufort area and across the United States. \nYou’ll be sure to hear time-honored favorites including “Sleigh Ride” and “Must’ve Been Good ‘Ol Saint Nick”\, “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree” and many other traditional Christmas tunes. \nThe Christmas Concerts are free to attend. Seating is provided at the church concert\, which will be an orchestra-style concert on stage\, but the town of Port Royal asks that you don’t forget to bring your chairs on Sunday afternoon\, and lots of good cheer. \nReady or not\, Christmas is only a few weeks away\, and the Parris Island Marine Band is here to spread some Christmas spirit to help everyone enjoy the holiday.

No advance registration required; drop-in guests welcome.  \nABOUT THE AUTHORSSusan Stone is a Reiki 3/ Master\, Level 3 Reconnection practitioner\, and Certified Crystal Healer. After being struck by lightning\, she developed the ability to connect and communicate with people beyond the veil of this world. In 2008 she was adopted by the Cherokee Nation and named Great Bear Medicine Woman and is now recognized as a Clan Grandmother. In 2009 she was initiated as a shaman and ordained as a non-denominational minister. During the course of her practice\, she has met hundreds of people awakening to their potential\, all of whom had amazing stories to share. She compiled their stories and combined them with some of her own in The Magical Nature of Humans. Currently\, Susan operates a school of arts in Port Royal\, leading others to discover the artist\, poet\, musician and mystic that exists within us all. \nIfetayo J. White\, an influential figure in the realm of Reiki and wellness\, hails from Washington\, DC\, but now calls St. Helena Island her home. She established the Lowcountry School of Reiki and CHOICES Birthing and Wellness Support\, contributing significantly to healing practices in the area since 2000. A Howard University graduate\, she pursued diverse paths before dedicating herself to healing modalities such as reflexology\, Jin Shin Do Acupressure\, and massage therapy. As a Usui Reiki Master Teacher since 1999\, Ifetayo continues to share her expertise through sessions\, workshops\, and her own Reiki certification program. Her heart is also filled with love for her family\, crafting\, cooking\, and beach walks.

We plan to paddle under the swing bridge to the sandbar and then parade by waterfront park on the way back. \nBe ready to be on the water at 11:00! \nCome dressed as Santa\, wear a Santa hat\, or come in any Holiday themed costume! We have so many folks who are creative with their costumes. \nWe will meet up at the Fillin Station afterwards to celebrate together! Can’t wait to see you all! \nSunday December 14 will be our Rain Date if the weather is uncooperative.
