It turns out that it’s not just fresh seafood, Frogmore stew, or shrimp & grits that people love about the food here in Beaufort, SC. Apparently, it’s the sandwiches, too, because three local Beaufort restaurants have been named on a list of the 25 Best Sandwich Spots in America.
In a recent article published on the website Eat This Not That, travel writer Matt Kirouac set out to find the best, “iconic delis to local sub shops and bakeries,” to “find the best sandwiches from coast to coast.”
In the past, Eat This, Not That has compiled lists of the best sandwich chains in America, and chefs have chimed in on some of their favorite fried chicken sandwiches and cheesesteaks. With its May 30th article, the website set out to determine what it considers to be the best of the bunch nationally.
Comping in pretty high on the list were Alvin Ord’s in Port Royal, along with the Lowcountry Cider Company and Foolish Frog on St. Helena Island.
Alvin Ord’s came in at #7 on the list, with Eat This Not That describing the sammy spot as “an institution in Port Royal, S.C.; iconic sandwich shop with a rich history that’s become a staple in the community. The dedicated staff, many of whom have been there for over 30 years, add to its unique charm.” “Each branch of Alvin Ord’s strives to meet the high standards set by the original location, baking their bread from scratch, and using only fresh ingredients and premium deli meats.”
At #8 comes Lowcountry Cider & Superior Coffee. “Beyond the amazing service and excellent coffee, their chicken salad sandwich is something I constantly find myself craving. You can savor this delicious treat on St. Helena Island or enjoy it outdoors in downtown Beaufort along the Beaufort River,” the article said.
And, at #9, the popular Foolish Frog on St. Helena Island. “The Lowcountry is known for its rich culinary traditions and delicious food, from fresh seafood to southern comfort dishes, and The Foolish Frog does just that. But one sandwich that stands out among the rest is their mahi mahi BLT. There are few restaurants that offer fresh mahi mahi and pair it with bacon.”
Eat This Not That is described as a website that is a “source for expert nutrition tips and health advice, covering wellness, healthy recipes, cooking hacks, food news, style trends and shopping.”
