The weekend is here and there’s lots of fun things to do all around the Beaufort area with tons of events going on as well. With the arrival of spring, things are getting pretty fun across our part of the Lowcountry, and there’s plenty going on this weekend, too.

The weather looks like it might decide to be cooperative for a beautiful weekend, with highs in the mid to upper 70s and barely any chance of rain coming our way.

With decent weather, get out and explore the outdoors a bit. Hunting Island Beach might just be the thing you need this weekend, and it’s unlikely the kids will complain. Visit the park to see the rebuilt fishing pier, and bring your rod and reel for an extended stay. Or, you could explore some of our local historic spots, there sure are enough of them. This is Beaufort SC, after all.

Walk the sacred grounds of the Sheldon Church, explore Fort Fremont and the semi-secret beach at Lands End, pay a visit to the Cypress Wetlands in Port Royal and marvel at the diverse nature here in the Lowcountry. The Wetlands in Port Royal really come alive at this time of year.

Enjoy some spring fun and visit a local park, they’re all over the area. Nothing says fun like enjoying a warm day outside in the fresh air, surrounded by the beautiful azaleas, wisteria, daffodils, jasmine and tulips, which all come together to give us the colors of spring.

What’s going on this weekend in Beaufort?

There are several events planned across the area, and this first weekend of April is all about kids fun.

Friday brings oysters, music and fun to Port Royal with the Friends of Fort Fremont Community Oyster Roast at Live Oak Park from 230 to 5pm. The group is raising money to help take care of the grounds of the historic Spanish-American War fort on St. Helena Island, and you can have lots of fun while you’re helping them out.

If oysters aren’t your thing, you can enjoy First Friday in downtown Beaufort from 5 to 8pm. It’s a pretty big deal. Three streets in downtown are closed to traffic, artists are doing their thing out on the streets and live music fills the air as you take advantage of special deals that our locally owned downtown shops and restaurants offer for the occasion. They even have adult and kiddie train rides, too.

Start your Saturday off with a visit to the Port Royal Farmers Market at the Naval Heritage Park in Port Royal. It runs from 9am to 12pm and you’ll find a fantastic selection of local produce, seafood, homemade cheeses & breads, honey and lots of other goodies.Around Town: What to do this weekend in Beaufort SC

Saturday is all about the kids here in Beaufort this weekend, with 2 big events on tap for them to enjoy.

KidFest Beaufort is back for the 24th year on Saturday from 10am to 2pm at the Cross Creek Shopping Center parking lot and and it’s bringing along tons of activities, games, prizes, crafts, and entertainment for families to enjoy. The event is FREE to the public, and all families are invited to the event for snow cones, games, jumping and virtual booths, crafts, face painting, fire truck tours, animals, prizes, live entertainment, a talent show featuring local groups and much more.

The annual Great Helicopter Easter Egg Drop also starts at 10am at Beaufort Academy on Lady’s Island. The largest Easter egg hunt in the area, the event boasts 15,000 plastic eggs being dropped from a Helicopter on the Beaufort Academy football field while food trucks, bounce houses, a kids zone, face painters and the Easter Bunny all invade the school’s campus for a day of fun.

The fun continues on Sunday with the annual Easter Festival at downtown Beaufort’s Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. The folks from Tidal Creek Fellowship put on a HUGE day of fun that includes an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, arts and crafts, bounce houses for big kids and some for toddlers too, snow cones, cookie decorating, a hair coloring station, Easter basket giveaways and more.

Also on Sunday, you might want to check out the unique event at the Beaufort Library called the Beaufort Human Library. The coolness is that the event’s “books” will be Beaufort community members from diverse backgrounds and experiences available to be “checked out” for conversations with “readers” to invite greater understanding of the many human stories to be found and shared in our communities. The Beaufort County Library is located at 311 Scott Street in downtown.

Enjoy one of these weekend community events…or just say ‘no’ to the crowds and go out to Explore Beaufort SC on your own.

As you can see, there’s plenty to do all over the Beaufort area and there’s always something for everyone. Keep up with all the local Beaufort SC events on our Explore Beaufort Event Calendar…and have a great weekend!
