The popular Broad River fishing pier is being replaced by Beaufort County. The popular remnant of the old Broad River Bridge was left standing to use as a fishing spot when construction of the current bridge was completed back in 2004.

The county announced that the boat ramp and parking lot will remain open the week of April 25, while survey work is being conducted.

Throughout the week a barge and drill rig will be maneuvering just west of the existing fishing pier.

The rig will be used to collect soil samples needed for design and engineering of the proposed replacement fishing pier.

Earlier in April, the County approved $230,000 in Accommodations Tax money for the early design and engineering part of the project.

Currently entering its design and engineering phase, there is no timetable for the work to be performed on the Broad River fishing pier which currently runs parallel with the 1.4 mile long bridge.
