Art in the Arsenal presents Sweetgrass Creations by Lynette Youson on Wednesday, June 21st from 11am to 1230pm at the Beaufort Arsenal on downtown’s Craven Street.
The tradition of basket-making came to America in the 17th century by way of enslaved West Africans who were brought to America to work on plantations. Lynette Youson, a fifth generation sweetgrass basket artisan from the Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, learned the art of weaving from her great great grandmother and continues to pass the tradition down to future generations!
Join us for an interactive workshop to learn more about the art of weaving through the eyes of Lynette!
This program is free and open to the public.
Registration required. Limited space is available.
