Loved by locals for a few generations, the popular Alvin Ord’s Sandwich Shop on Ribaut Road in Port Royal is now under new ownership.

After 40 years in business, owners Tom and Marie Lewis have sold the business to local restaurateur and businessman, Nick Borreggine and his family. Nick has been the owner of Fat Patties in Port Royal for about a decade, and has also recently opened ShellRing Ale Works along the water at the old port in Port Royal.

Although the sale was completed this past June, the Lewis family and the Borreggines officially announced the purchase in a social media posting on October 11th.

“The torch has been passed,” the posting on Facebook said. “Tom and Marie Lewis have decided to retire.”

“This past June Nick Borreggine, his Father and family have purchased Alvin Ord’s in Port Royal. Rest assured we will not change a thing! Tom and Marie have built and run a great place for the past 40 years.”

“Our intention is to honor them and keep it rolling.”

That’s a good thing.

The much-loved, iconic, sandwich spot has been making its sammies the same way for years and offers popular options with names like “The Salvation,” “The Rachel,” and the “Beaufort Philly,” which blends four distinctly different cheeses into a cheese steak.

“They helped me out in the past,” Borreggine said. “We would not be where we are today if it weren’t for Tom and Marie.”

“We purchased the restaurant back in June, and the reason we just now announced it is that we wanted to prove to the town that nothing was going to change,” he added.

And apparently, nothing has, nor will it.

“Our vision for the future is to change nothing. Our vision is to keep it rolling along like it always has,” Borreggine said.

“All of the staff, the ladies who have worked there, will still work there, including Marie Lewis.”
