Volunteers with the annual Wreaths Across America placed 26,000 wreaths at Beaufort National Cemetery on Saturday, December 14th.

On a warm December morning, it was also a very warming sight to see people dedicating their time to honoring our heroes.

Saturday was National Wreaths Across America Day with Christmas wreaths being placed at veteran’s grave sites at more than 1,600 locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad; including all 230 National Cemeteries.

Before noon, four tractor trailers made their way to the Beaufort National Cemetery in procession, led by dozens and dozens motorcycles of various clubs including the Patriot Guard Riders.

Wreaths Across America’s Beaufort Chapter stated that they had reached their goal of 26,000 sponsored wreaths.

Each year since its official inception, millions of Americans – a third of whom are children – come together to REMEMBER the fallen, HONOR those that served and their families, and TEACH the next generation about the value of freedom.

The mission of the National Wreaths Across America program is to remember our fallen heroes, honor them, and teach others of the sacrifices they have made for our Country. Started at Arlington National Cemetery in 1992, each year during the holiday season, wreaths are placed on veterans’ grave sites at more than 1,400 locations across the United States, at sea and around the world.

The Beaufort National Cemetery joined the national Wreaths Across America celebration about 18 years ago and has been participating in the Wreaths Across America ceremony ever since.

In both of the past two years, the entire cemetery was able to be covered in wreaths, thanks to the generosity of sponsors.

The Beaufort National Cemetery is special.

Created by President Lincoln in 1863, more than 21,000 now lie at rest at the Beaufort National Cemetery including veterans from every major U.S. conflict from the Civil War through today.

The 2024 Wreaths Across America Beaufort event also saw hundreds of volunteers on hand placing the wreaths at thousands of grave markers.

What an honor.
