A local Daisy troop is spreading kindness throughout Port Royal.

Girl Scout Troop 4100 is a troop of 12 Daisies, comprised of all kindergarten and first graders, who chose to take action in their community by “painting Port Royal with kindness”.

They created a Kindness Rocks garden at the new Corner Perk coffee shop, with permission from the owners of course, to make people smile and to spread a bit of happiness. Community members are encouraged to take a rock, leave a rock, or give a rock to someone who needs one.

According to the Daisy troop’s co-leader Kelly Quintinilla, the rocks are for someone who needs a smile.

“The Troop will monitor the rock garden and add rocks as needed,” she added.

The Girl Scouts of Troop 4100 are in their very first year of girl scouting and have been working hard all year on earning their petals, which represent each part of the Girl Scout law.

“They took a trip to the Cypress Wetlands in Port Royal to pick up trash,” Quintanilla said. “They also spent one meeting painting and writing inspirational messages on rocks. Their hope is to make the world a better place by starting right here in our community.”

The Daisies wrote messages such as ‘smile’, ‘be happy’, ‘you are amazing’, ‘I love you’ and ‘I think you are awesome’. Then the girls took it upon themselves to come up with messages and draw pictures that they thought would cheer someone up.

“It’s a Girl Scout tradition to take action, which is why Troop 4100 chose to make the Kindness Rocks garden as their Take Action project,” she said. “A Take Action project gives the girls a chance to solve a problem in their community. When confronted with the idea of taking action in our community, the girls all agreed that they want to make people happy.”

When contacted, the owners of Pluff Mudd/Corner Perk were very open to the idea of having a Kindness Rocks garden somewhere around the shop and the Daisies will make sure the garden is well-kept and fully stocked by taking turns checking on it.”

“We hope this brings a few smiles to Port Royal.”

We’re pretty sure it will.
