Fans of ’90s rock/alternative are in for a big treat this summer in Port Royal. ShellRing Ale Works is hosting its ShellRing Sunset Sessions and is bringing popular ’90s band CRACKER into town for a concert on September 6th.

Yes. You read that correctly. Cracker is coming to town.

With a mix of influences and sounds from rock, punk, grunge, psychedelia, country, blues and folk, fans of the band will remember the hits from the mega-popular group including Low, Euro-Trash Girl, Get Off This, and Teen Angst/What The World Needs Now.

Coming off the success of the first major concert at ShellRing with Atlanta folk-rock band Drivin N Cryin in May, owner Nick Borreggine is turning it up a notch for this next one.

Cracker has been called many things over the years, but more than anything, they are survivors. They’ve been playing together for over 25 years, and have amassed 10 studio albums, multiple gold records, thousands of live performances, and several hit songs that you still hear on the radio every day.

Started in 1991 after founder David Lowery’s former band Camper Van Beethoven disbanded, the band’s first album came out in 1992 and sold hundreds of thousands of copies, and then the next album went platinum in 1993.

Borreggine’s vision for the Sunset Sessions is more of a personal one.

“I drive to Savannah and Charleston probably once or twice a month to attend concerts, and I get home at 1:30am,” he said. “So let’s just have them here and get home at 10:30pm instead.”

Makes sense to us!

Borreggine has partnered with Status Entertainment to bring in bands that have had national popularity and recognition. In other words, music we all know.

“We want to bring excellent live music to Port Royal and Beaufort for everyone to enjoy,” he said; and they are currently in talks with a few other bigger name acts for additional ShellRing Sunset Sessions this upcoming fall. Borreggine said to also look for the next one on Columbus Day weekend.

“Yeah, after Cracker, they’re going to love the next one, too,” he said.

The Drivin N Cryin show on May 24th sold out, and the September 6th show with Cracker will most likely do the same.
