The Sand Shark Tank opened its doors over last weekend in Uptown Beaufortโ€™s Newcastle Square putting an exclamation point on the block where three new University of South Carolina-Beaufort student housing buildings were recently built.

The new restaurant & cafe in the spot formerly home to Herban Marketplace is focusing on serving locals who want a quick bite and also on the local USCB students that live in the brand new dorms right next door at the corner of Newcastle & Boundary Streets.

The restaurant is the idea of Zack Manley, the local founder/owner of The Cracked Egg restaurant chain, Jaspers Bar & Grill.

The cafe offers coffees, espressos, fraps and teas, along with sodas, a variety of juices, energy drinks and even meal replacement shakes.

โ€œWith the new dorms going up for USCB on Boundary Street there arenโ€™t many choices for the kids in terms of where to go and grab something quick to eat no matter what time of day,โ€ Manley said. โ€œWeโ€™ll offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and a variety of drinks while giving them a place to go and hang out and mingle with each other and with locals, too.โ€

The ever-evolving menu has plenty of offerings that college kids want, and locals need, including breakfast items along with a variety of sandwiches, salads and wraps and even a salad bar so you can make your own.

“The menu will change often,” says the Shark Tank’s chef, Allen Mathers, who has a culinary degree from Culinary Institute of America and a masterโ€™s in culinary cuisine from the University of Cincinnati. “We plan to expand our dinner options soon,” Mathers added.

On the beverage side of things, the โ€˜Tankโ€™ offers coffees, espressos, fraps and teas, along with sodas, a variety of juices, energy drinks and even meal replacement shakes.

The restaurant/cafe offers a board game room, couches, cell phone and laptop charging stations and even a stage set up for live music, karaoke and open mic nights.

The Tank is open 7 days a week from 7am to 9pm. Make sure you check it out.
