New Hollywood movie filming next month in Beaufort

It’s been quite awhile, but there’s finally another new Hollywood movie being filmed in Beaufort.

“Stars Fell on Alabama” will be filmed here in the area starting in November, according to Ron Tucker of the Beaufort Film Society.

Extras are needed for the film. If you are interested in being an extra, you can send an email to Megan at sfoaxtras@gmail.com

Once upon a time, Beaufort, SC was home to the filming of some of Hollywood’s biggest movies; such as Forrest Gump, The Big Chill, The Great Santini, and The Prince of Tides.  But some 18 years have gone by since the last feature film was shot here.

The film, written by Robert Windom, will be directed by frequent Beaufort visitor and sometimes resident, V.W. Scheich, and his Rareform Pictures.

The film will star Ciara Hanna and James Maslow.

Hanna has starred in the Power Rangers television series as well as ICarly on Nickelodeon and has had roles in episodes of television’s Hawaii Five-O as well.

Maslow has starred in television episodes of Big Bang Theory, Big Time Rush and ICarly, among a variety of various television and movie roles.

Ciara Hanna and James Maslow will be in Beaufort filming the new movie, Stars Fell on Alabama.

Scheich put out a call for extras for the film in September, and filming will be filmed from November 10th through the 23rd with around 100 extras as well as the main cast and crew.

The Plot

The plot of the romantic comedy, according to its IMDB page, centers around a character named Bryce Dixon, a successful Hollywood agent who focuses on work and an extravagant LA-lifestyle, and Madison Belle, a Hollywood starlet on the verge of becoming a true star, if she can just land the right role.

Bryce Dixon is returning to Alabama for the first time in 15 years for his high school reunion. When he learns he’s the only one of his friends who isn’t married with children, he convinces his client, starlet Madison Belle, to pretend to be his girlfriend. But he soon learns that success has different meanings, and romance may be closer than he thinks.

While Stars Fell on Alabama is lighthearted and fun, the movie explores a number of topics, including the definition of success, the role of friends and family, and following one’s heart. The movie features the South but doesn’t make fun of it. And ultimately, of course, Stars Fell on Alabama is a love story, named after – and featuring a performance of – the timeless jazz standard Stars Fell on Alabama.

Expected scenes in the movie, according to Scheich, will include Bay Street and downtown Beaufort, parts of Port Royal and Bluffton, and Beaufort High School. The Beaufort Inn will be renamed the Willow Valley Inn.

Scheich has worked on a number of films in a variety of capacities over the years.  Most notable are Hancock, Fast and Furious, Iron Man 2, John Wick and the television series Fargo, among many others.

The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters in March 2020.
