A familiar Lady’s Island restaurant appears close to being replaced by a fast food spot.

An article published by the Beaufort Gazette says that plans are to demolish The Original Steamer restaurant to make way for a new Wendy’s restaurant with some amenities.

According to the article, the proposal still needs approval by the City of Beaufort.

Steamer, a popular Lady’s Island fixture for decades, has seen visits from lots of locals, visitors, and some popular names too. Barbra Streisand ate there. As did Nick Nolte, Demi Moore, Joel Silver, Robert Zemeckis and Tom Berenger.

The restaurant, which recently closed its doors, was popular for fresh local seafood, steaks and popular local Lowcountry dishes including Frogmore stew and shrimp & grits.
