Rainy days can bring your plans for a day out to a screeching halt. Although Beaufort is abundant with natural beauty, there are plenty of indoor activities to try around town to get you out of the hotel, or the house. A rainy day is no reason to stop having a good time here in Beaufort. With a wealth of historical and cultural attractions and plenty of places to have fun, there’s always something to do, rain or shine, whether you have kids along with you or not. Visit a Local Museum

The Beaufort area is home to five very distinct museums that house an awful lot of history. From the beginning of America at the Santa Elena History Center to the beginning of the United States Marine Corps at the Parris Island Museum, you can see and learn so much about Beaufort’s and America’s past by visiting each one. Check out the Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center

No matter where you travel in Beaufort County and the surrounding area, you’ll likely cross the waters of Port Royal Sound. These waters are some of the most pristine in the country, and the Port Royal Sound Foundation wants to keep them that way. The exhibits at the Maritime Center include a 3,000 gallon salt water tank displaying local fish, and a shallow touch tank that showcases seasonal marine life from our local rivers, plus lots more.

Go Shopping in Downtown Beaufort

You can do it in the rain! Downtown Beaufort’s shops are rain friendly and you won’t even get that wet because most of the doors are just a few steps away from one another. Spend some time at the Library

Libraries are important cornerstones of a healthy community and give people the opportunity to experience new ideas, get lost in wonderful stories and can encourage reading and exploration in children…while staying dry. Be a kid again at The Kazoo Factory & Museum

The Kazoo Factory & Museum is dedicated to the history of the kazoo. The factory and museum houses one of the largest collections of kazoos in the world. Originally established in 2007 in Seattle, Washington, The Kazoo Museum opened in its current location in Beaufort in 2010. Visitors get to see how kazoos are made, and get to make their own kazoo. Pay a visit to the Pat Conroy Literary Center

A virtual museum to the late local author, the Pat Conroy Literary Center educates and inspires a community of readers, writers, and teachers in and beyond the South Carolina Lowcountry. The Conroy Center continues Pat’s courageous and generous-hearted legacy as a teacher, mentor, advocate, and friend to storytellers of every kind and hosts a variety of exhibitions, workshops, presentations and discussions drawn from Conroy’s writing life.

Hang out in a local Coffeehouse

Beaufort has a variety of locally owned coffee shops where you can get a good cup, read a book, spin some vinyl and get online with free wifi. The Carolina Cider Company offers a variety of hot & cold drinks, along with dozens of bakery options and a country store too. Find a coffee shop here.

Enjoy some Bowling and Laser Tag

Play 18 Holes of Indoor Mini Golf

Keep having some indoor fun in the dark while the water falls from the sky outside at Beaufort’s brand new, indoor, air conditioned mini golf facility, Glowcountry Indoor Mini Golf. Blacklight mini golf is one of the hottest current trends in miniature golf. Enjoyed by kids and adults alike, with a glowing ball you have to putt your way over, through, and around fun glowing obstacles on your way to the hole on a brightly colored, eye-popping course.
