It’s that time of year again. Local strawberries are ready for the pickin’ and it’s time to go and enjoy a taste of the spring, Beaufort-style. Dempsey Farms U Pick has been open for the season through the COVID-19 crisis, offering locals a brief but welcome respite from sitting in the house.
There are special social distancing rules to follow in the fields and at the farm stand. Customers are also being asked to use hand sanitizer and hand wash stations before going to pick in the fields.
There’s nothing like grabbing the kids and going for a drive down Sea Island Parkway on St.Helena Island and pulling up to the familiar red & white sign on the right side of the 
highway.
A trip to Dempsey’s is a rite of passage for many of Beaufort’s kids…and plenty of adults. Grabbing a bucket and venturing out into the fields in search of the perfect strawberry is a springtime favorite in these parts.
