The 2nd annual New Year’s Day Pirate Plunge is coming to the Sands Beach in Port Royal.

The event, sponsored by the Port Royal Community Beer Garden, is open to everyone…and you don’t have to dress like a pirate if you don’t want to.

The festivities start at 11am on Saturday with the plunge into the water coming shortly thereafter.

The cost to take the plunge is a donation of $10 that goes directly to the Historic Port Royal Museum to support their mission.

Prizes will be awarded at the event with $100 cash going to the best dressed pirate.

Afterward, attendees can enjoy live music with Walker Dean, an oyster roast and sm’ores at the Community Beer Garden adjacent to The Sands. Fly Pies Woodfired Pizza will also be on hand to cure any issues you may have with hunger.

“If you’ve never hit the water at The Sands,” Community Beer Garden founder, Nick Borreggine, warns you…”please wear shoes.”

All the oyster shells in the water make sure there’s a reason for that.
