Descended from horses brought to the Lowcountry by the Spanish in the 1500s, there are only around 400 Marsh Tackies left in existence — and one of them calls Honey Horn home.
Used by Gullah islanders for plowing, transportation and for hunting, these sturdy horses are making a comeback thanks to the conservation efforts of the Carolina Marsh Tacky Association.
Comet is a living legacy of the Marsh Tacky population here to teach us about their care, conservation, and distinctiveness. Learn about the history of these adaptable horses with a trip to our historic barn.
