Construction has recently started on the planned pedestrian bridge from the new Whitehall Park on Lady’s Island to the Woods Memorial Bridge. The new walkway will connect to the Woods Bridge from the sidewalk near the end of the causeway area at the tip of Whitehall Park.
The bridge connector will provide easy access to Whitehall Park from downtown as well as providing those stunning Beaufort SC views along the way. It also extends the walkability of the city of Beaufort to the new park and planned neighborhood on Lady’s Island.
O’Quinn Marine Construction was awarded the contract in September and hasn’t hesitated to get the new project going. Work is expected to be completed sometime by the summer of 2022.
Construction on some of Whitehall Park’s features, including shaded picnic areas and parking, will begin in the spring of 2022; and no date has been published for construction on the living community and multi-use area.
