Things are about to get a bit noisier around Beaufort SC, the sea islands and in Port Royal. Parris Island has announced that from Monday through Friday of next week, units from Camp Lejeune will be at the depot conducting training exercises which include utilizing the rivers and creeks that surround the base as well, which will lead to an increase in noise.

“From Jan. 24 – Jan. 28, units from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune will be conducting training operations aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island,” the depot said in a press release posted to its official Facebook page. (see post below)

“Throughout the week, scenario-based exercises will be conducted across the depot and throughout the waterways surrounding the base. Some of these exercises will involve aerial operations, to include the use of rotary aircraft and unmanned aerial drones. The local community may experience an increased level of noise during the week caused by the aerial operations.”

“We apologize in advance for the noise, however, please know that the sound you hear is the sound of freedom.”

No need to apologize. We never hear enough of the sound of freedom in the skies over Beaufort, whether it be from MCAS Beaufort or an increase of operations at Parris Island

It will be a treat to get to observe other types of aircraft in our sky for the week. Any boaters should probably keep alert while in the Beaufort River, Battery Creek, Archer’s Creek and other estuaries that meander around Parris Island.
