Beaufort is one of fastest growing counties in South Carolina

A recent study has shown that Beaufort County is the 8th fastest growing county in all of South Carolina, making it, overall, the 10th largest county in the state.

According to Stacker.com, a research and data-driven website, Beaufort is ahead of 38 other counties throughout the Palmetto State, with many of the top fastest growing counties located right here in the Lowcountry.

According to Stacker, these shifts in population can be due to job opportunities, high quality of life, easy commutability to job centers, low rents, or any combination of these or other factors. Stacker compiled a list of the fastest-growing counties in South Carolina using data from the U.S. Census Bureau. And, the counties are ranked by the highest population growth from 2010 to 2020.

The research and data crunching showed that Beaufort County had a more-than-modest 20.3% increase in its population from 2010 through 2020, adding a whopping 31,567 residents.

That’s quite a lot!

Its percentage of population increase put it at #8 in the whole state for population growth with a total population in 2020 of 187,117.

Other Lowcountry counties higher up on the list are Jasper #17, Dorchester #9, Berkeley #5, and Charleston County #4. Rounding out the top five are #1 Horry County, #2 Greenville County and #3 York County.

Things are really growing in and around Beaufort, too.

It was recently announced that a new shopping center will soon be under construction that will house several popular big-box retailers that should mix very well with Beaufort’s many small family-owned businesses. New neighborhoods are popping up all over the area, and other popular large businesses are soon to be setting up shop in Beaufort.

The new Beaufort Station will house a Hobby Lobby, Old Navy, Ulta Beauty and a few more popular brands, with enough room in the new center for others to join in the fun. It’s also rumored that discount grocery giant Aldi will join the center, along with a Panera Bread location.

Everybody knows that when you add a variety of businesses to a town, both large and small businesses, it also helps to increase the quality of life for everyone who lives there by adding variety and providing more options to the locals.
