Hey y’all. We’re pretty and we know it. In fact, Beaufort SC was just named one of the 13 Prettiest Towns in the United States by World Atlas, a popular website that offers perspectives on the world in the form of original maps and articles, with a dash of travel & tourism.
Beaufort was #11 out of the list of thirteen, and World Atlas had lots of nice things to say about our little town.
“Dubbed the ‘Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands,’ Beaufort holds the distinction of being South Carolina’s second oldest town and is renowned for its historical and cultural significance, making the Beaufort History Museum an appropriate first stop to embark on your adventure — the establishment unveils 450 years of the town’s history, displaying permanent and temporary artifacts, documents, and photos that are pertinent to the local history,” the article said.
“Another well-known attraction in the area is the Coastal Expeditions Beaufort, a boat tour agency that takes riders on unique cruises, including the Dolphin and History Cruise, Beaufort Sunset Cruise, and the Beaufort Oyster Ecotour.”

It’s good to be pretty but this isn’t really that much of a surprise if you’ve ever visited Beaufort SC.
“Sorting through 19,000+ incorporated cities, towns, and villages in the third-largest country by total area is no easy task,” World Atlas said. “Fortunately, we have skimmed through them to find the cream of the crop for your next potential getaway.”
Beaufort is in some “pretty” company on the list, too. Other towns made the list including Sitka, AK, Mount Dora, FL, Carmel, CA, Brunswick, GA, and Gatlinburg, TN, among others.
The accolades really have been pouring in for Beaufort recently, and we couldn’t be more proud. Beaufort being prettiest is a pretty cool thing, though.
Just last summer, World Atlas also name Beaufort, SC #1 on its list of Cutest Towns in the South.
Trips To Discover recently named Beaufort the Best Summer Vacation Destination in South Carolina, one of the Most Friendliest Towns in the U.S. and one of the 20 Most Beautiful Small Towns in the U.S.
Also, in 2023, Town & Country magazine named Beaufort one of the Cutest Seaside Towns in the South. (there they go calling us “cute” again!)
In 2022, Southern Living magazine named Beaufort the #1 Best Small Town in the South.
We’ve also recently been named one of the 25 Best Small Towns in America by Architectural Digest; the Most Charming Small Town in South Carolina; one of the Cutest Towns in the U.S. and the Most Quaint Town in South Carolina.
In addition to those, Southern Living magazine named the Old Sheldon Church ruins one of the South’s Most Beautiful Chapels; named Hunting Island State Park one of the Best State Parks in the South; and named downtown Beaufort’s Craven Street one of the South’s Most Beautiful Streets.
