Architectural Digest named Beaufort the Prettiest town in South Carolina in a recent list published on the magazine’s website.

“Rich in architecture and layered with nature—whether it’s canopies of trees, a beach that stretches for miles, or the glass-like surface on a lake or river—each U.S. state hosts more than one town that will take your breath away,” AD said.

“From the East Coast to all the way to the West, we have listed are our favorites, with special love for small towns that are also abundant in culture. So put on your hiking boots and get ready to explore. ”

Among countless other things, Beaufort’s majestic Antebellum homes help give it the special charm that the town is revered for; no doubt something that Architectural Digest paid attention to when making their selection.

In picking Beaufort as the prettiest town, and one that you should explore, in South Carolina, the article was sure to mention “historical buildings and walking tours documenting 500 years of history.”

This isn’t anything new to us here in Beaufort. Our town has been receiving major accolades for several years now, and it is not slowing down.

The accolades have been pouring in for Beaufort recently.

Recently, Beaufort has been named on several other lists including the #1 Cutest Town in the South, the Most Laid Back Town in South Carolina, and one of the Prettiest Towns in the U.S. It also named the town of Port Royal one of the Top Bike-Friendly Towns in South Carolina….all in the past year or so!

Also, other accolades for Beaufort, SC have included Southern Living magazine naming the Old Sheldon Church ruins one of the South’s Most Beautiful Chapels; Hunting Island State Park one of the Best State Parks in the South; and downtown Beaufort’s Craven Street one of the South’s Most Beautiful Streets.
