The coronavirus pandemic has changed a lot so far in 2020. Ok, well, it’s changed everything, and the 2020 installment of the Beaufort Shrimp Festival is no different.

One of the area’s more popular events, Beaufort’s annual Shrimp Festival celebrates Lowcountry cuisine and always incorporates lots of fun activities for all ages. Every year, the festivities include concerts, competitive events and two fun days of several local restaurants filling Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park offering samples of Lowcountry dishes featuring local wild-caught shrimp.

Not this year.

Not in 2020.

According to organizers, the Beaufort Shrimp Festival will go on, however, according to the festival’s website it’s in a “reimagined” fashion.

Instead of the food, music and fun at the park, the 2020 edition of the festival will be a continuous 17 day affair from September 18th through October 4th celebrating our local shrimping season at our local restaurants, shops, and outdoor venues across the Beaufort region to enjoy the best of Lowcountry food and lifestyle.

“Throughout Shrimp Festival Season, participating restaurants region-wide will feature a specially priced fresh shrimp “tasting menu” item and entrée and local shops will feature seafood themed promotions,” the festival’s social media said.

The Shrimp Festival’s website and social media have been updated to reflect the changes, as has the updated festival logo.

Be sure to check out the Beaufort Shrimp Festival website for all of the details and to see participating restaurants, and follow it on Facebook for any up to the minute updates.

Any way you shake it….we’re looking forward to eating local and enjoying the creative shrimp dishes that our amazing local chefs put together in celebration of shrimp….the fruit of the sea.

It would be much better enjoying it along the downtown waterfront with thousands of our neighbors, as usual, but this is 2020. We’re elated to see that the event wasn’t canceled altogether and we can’t wait to get out and support our local restaurants.
