Keeping in the spirit of giving and helping others, which is the Beaufort way, the Beaufort Water Festival has donated its surplus of Annual Water Festival t-shirts to victims of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

The popular shirts usually go on sale here in the Beaufort area each spring in anticipation of the upcoming festival, and each has its own unique design typically created by a local artist here in Beaufort.

The donation was made through the One Eleuthera Foundation of the U.S. The residents of Eleuthera, Bahamas, including ex-pats, have come together to help victims of Hurricane Dorian in nearby Abaco and the foundation is providing support directly to evacuees coming to Eleuthera as well as to Eleutherans who are receiving family members into their homes from the affected areas. This includes groceries, clothing, and personal care items.

The number of people requiring this assistance is growing every day as thousands have been evacuated. The foundation has been coordinating closely with partner organizations to assist with volunteers and the collection and distribution of donated food and clothing.

We reached out to the Water Festival to find out how many shirts, and from what years, were donated, but were not provided with an answer.

Kudos to the Water Festival folks for finding the best possible use for any surplus Beaufort Water Festival shirts that they had in storage.

It makes you proud to call these folks locals, and it makes you proud to call Beaufort SC our community.
