COVID-19 cancels Beaufort Veterans Day Parade

The Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Department has canceled this year’s Veteran’s Day Parade scheduled for November 11th, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for our veterans and their service to America.

The holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country’s service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” in order to account for all veterans in all wars.

In celebration, the Beaufort County Department of Veterans Affairs always hosts a Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony, complete with the Parris Island Marine Band, civic leaders, veterans and local organizations all participating.

The Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Department staff remains available to assist veterans and dependents with their claims and questions.

For questions or to set an appointment, please call Veterans Affairs at 843-255-6880.
