Dos Amigos restaurant closing, new eatery concept to open

A popular Mexican restaurant in Beaufort is closing its doors, but an exciting new concept just up the street is taking form. According to online publication What Now Charleston, local restaurateur Pedro Solorio will shutter Dos Amigos Mexican Grill & Tequila Bar in Beaufort Town Center on December 31, 2024.

In its place, he’s introducing a fresh, yet-to-be-named venture just a short drive away at 2317 Boundary Street, formerly the home of Jade Garden Chinese Cuisine.

Solorio owns a few Mexican restaurants in the Beaufort area through his company, PS Restaurant Group, including, Dos Amigos Mexican Restaurant, Rancho Grande, and the recently opened Pedro’s Tacos, both on Ribaut Road. He opened Dos Amigos restaurant in August of 2018.

According to What Now Charleston, Solorio’s new restaurant will offer an elevated yet approachable Miami-style cantina vibe, featuring vibrant interiors, creative cocktails, and upscale Mexican cuisine.

“Anybody can come in, even the guys that work in construction,” Solorio said to writer Cat Broughton. “You don’t have to be fully dressed up. I’m trying to make it very welcoming.”

While he’s still deliberating between three potential names, Solorio assured What Now Charleston that he won’t include overused terms like agave or tequila.

The new concept is expected to debut in the spring of 2025.

That’s not all that’s going on.

Solorio has also announced plans to What Now Charleston to bring a second location of his popular Beaufort eatery, Rancho Grande, to an undisclosed location.

Drawing inspiration from Mexico’s vibrant landscapes and bold flavors, Rancho Grande blends traditional recipes with fresh, local ingredients to deliver a truly authentic dining experience. The menu features Mexican favorites including tacos, fajitas, nachos, and quesadillas, alongside handcrafted margaritas and specialty cocktails.

Solorio told What Now Charleston that he hopes to open the new Rancho Grande in the summer or fall of 2025.

He is currently deciding between two different locations, and said that he prefers not to share further details at this time.
