Beaufort’s Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade

January 20 @ 10:00 am

Beaufort City and Beaufort County offices will be closed on Monday, January 20th, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as it is a Federal Holiday.

A parade honoring Dr. King is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Monday, January 20th in downtown Beaufort. It will proceed from Adventure Street, along Boundary to Carteret, Bay and Bladen streets.

It is sponsored by the Beaufort Ministerial Alliance.

On November 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed the King Holiday Bill into law, designating the third Monday in January a federal holiday in observance of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, it is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer and improve their communities.

MLK Day of Service is a defining moment in volunteerism, as Americans across the country step up to make communities more equitable and take action to build the Beloved Community of Dr. King’s dream.
