Robert “Gibbes” McDowell Jr. is a third generation native son of Beaufort, South Carolina. Gibbes is most known for his two novels, Driftwood Unmasked and Dragon’s Mouth. Gibbes co-produced the documentary “Sea Island Secrets: A Journey through Time for SCETV that explored the history of Native American shell rings. He is also a contributing storyteller for the Beaufort 300 Project, penned several anecdotal stories for a Janet Garrity’s Fish Camps of the Sea Islands, and has written for several outdoor magazines.
Gibbes spent most of his youth duck hunting and fishing with his father in the ponds and rivers around the Lowcountry. As a teenager he became fascinated with bow hunting which culminated in many trips to the wild country of North Carolina. Gibbes could be crowned our very own “Prince of Tides” as he continues to chase tides and explore the hammocks of the Lowcountry.
This will be a unforgettable evening of storytelling and community.
