Join us to build an oyster reef on the Broad Creek – a vital habitat for supporting a robust oyster population!
Here’s your opportunity to be part of sustainability project targeted at restoring Hilton Head Island’s shoreline and providing increased habitat for juvenile fish, shrimp, and crab.
We’ll be assisting the SCDNR on Thursday, May 12th, with a reef build add-on in the Broad Creek. Volunteers are asked to arrive at the Cross Island Boat Landing at 9:30 am, or assist in loading shell at the Coastal Discovery Museum at 9am. Wear boots and clothes that can get muddy. We’ll supply the gloves. The reef we are working on is very near this landing and we’ll be using recycled oyster shell collected from local restaurants. Don’t forget to wear sun protective clothing and bring a water bottle!
