Carolina Day Campfire Conversation
Gather around the fire for an evening of meaningful conversation, shared history, and community connection.
This special program is free and sponsored by Jasper County 250.
Joe McGill and The Slave Dwelling Project invites participants to reflect on life in the Lowcountry during the Revolutionary War era. Through guided discussions and storytelling, attendees will explore what daily life was like for enslaved individuals in Jasper County, formerly part of Beaufort District in 1776, with particular attention to the Old House Plantation site, birth and burial place of Thomas Heyward, Jr, signer of the Declaration of Independence, Patriot, Statesman, and Planter. These elements offer a window into the landscape and labor that shaped the lives and histories of people in the region, fostering a deeper understanding of the past and its enduring legacy.
