PRSF Lecture Series: White Shark Conservation

March 5 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Dive into the fascinating world of white sharks as we explore cutting-edge research projects happening right here in the Northwest Atlantic. This engaging lecture will uncover how scientists study these iconic predators and the innovative conservation efforts working to protect them and our ocean ecosystems.

About the speaker:
Dr. Megan Winton, Senior Scientist, Atlantic White Shark Conservancy
As an aspiring shark scientist growing up in northeast Florida, Megan thought she would have to travel across the globe, or at the very least the United States, if she ever wanted to study great white sharks. She had no idea they were swimming right past her every winter during the course of their southern migration. Now the Senior Scientist at the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, a Cape Cod, Massachusetts, based nonprofit, she is leading efforts to study the species along the east coast, including the southeast, which represents the new frontier for great white research in the Atlantic. Her research uses a combination of cutting-edge technologies and creative approaches to study the movements, behavior, and impacts of human activities on great whites and other shark species. In her talk, she’ll discuss how recent scientific advances are shedding light on the secret lives of sharks and transforming people’s perceptions of this iconic species.

Our lecture series allows you to learn from the experts. With a wide range of topics from Lowcountry wildlife and history to best practices for your home and garden, there’s truly something for everyone!
