Are you ready for another winter? According to the 2020 Farmers’ Almanac, this winter will be filled with so many ups and downs on the thermometer, it may remind you of a “Polar Coaster,” but things don’t look to be that bad for us as it predicts a brisk and wet winter here in Beaufort and in the rest of the Southeast U.S.
The 2020 edition of the 201 year old publication predicts the worst of the bitterly cold winter conditions will affect areas east of the Rockies all the way to the Appalachians.
“Our extended forecast is calling for yet another freezing, frigid, and frosty winter for two-thirds of the country,” shares Editor Peter Geiger.
The Almanac calls for above-normal winter precipitation over the eastern third of the country and a cooler and wetter Southeastern U.S.
But, there was no report of a prediction of snow in the South, just a lot of ups and downs when it comes to temperatures this winter.
The prediction also suggests a suspenseful start to January over the eastern half of the country. This may mean frequent free-falling precipitation as well as strong and gusty winds. January 4–7 and 12–15 could, depending on where you live, mean copious amounts of snow, rain, sleet, and ice.
While these are more or less educated predictions, the Farmers’ Almanac has a history. Farmers’ Almanac has been in continuous publication since 1818. Published by Geiger of Lewiston, Maine, the Farmers’ Almanac has been providing long-range weather predictions for both the U.S. and Canada ever since.
