Greek restaurant now open in downtown Beaufort (updated)

Mezes Mediterranean Grill opened its doors over the last few days on Port Republic Street in downtown Beaufort and from what we’ve seen and heard, visitors to the new restaurant have nothing but good things to say.

The new spot has a menu that offers Greek dips, salads, entrees and specialties too…and a nice list of Greek wines.

Hours are Monday through Wednesday 4pm to 9pm and Thursday through Saturday 4pm to 10pm. The restaurant is closed on Sundays.

Here are a few photos of the new restaurant, and menu:

We can say goodbye to an old favorite local restaurant in downtown and get ready to say hello to a new one soon to be taking its spot.

Longtime Port Republic Street fixture Emily’s Restaurant & Tapas Bar shut its doors last week and is going through some changes. Plans are to reopen it in the next few weeks as a brand new restaurant featuring a bit of a different fare.

Mezes Mediterranean Grill will open at 906 Port Republic Street with a menu full of classic Greek and Mediterranean dishes says part owner, Jim Tsironikos.

Yep.Β  Downtown is getting a Greek restaurant. Fantastic.

Bring on the moussaka, tzatkiki and baklava please. This is exciting foodie news for sure.

Along with pitas, saganaki cheese and hummus,Β we were told thatΒ patrons can expect an authentic Mediterranean menu with lots of classic entrees including traditional lamb & beef gyros (right from the spit), stuffed grape leaves (dolmathes), chicken and pork souvlaki and other (shish kebabs) and lots more.

The restaurant changed ownership in October of 2018.

Currently, the restaurant is undergoing extensive renovations that are expected to be completed in the coming weeks, according to its Facebook page.

We’re pretty sure that Beaufort will be very excited they’re doing it, too.

If you enjoyed Emily’s, we’re told you can still expect to order a few longtime favorites at Mezes.

The name of the new restaurant also has roots in dining.Β  The word mezes is Greek for tapas (small plates).
