Friday morning brought lots of sunshine to Beaufort and lots of sighs of relief that we made it through Hurricane Dorian. It also brought some bad news from Groucho’s Deli.
In an announcement on Facebook Friday morning, Groucho’s on Lady’s Island announced it was closing its doors immediately.
“We have had to make the difficult decision to permanently close for business effective immediately,” the post said.
“We would like to thank the Ladys Island community and our valued customers for their patronage over the past 5 years,” it added.
No reason was given for the closure. The restaurant opened on Sea Island Parkway in March of 2014.
We reached out to their offices in Columbia SC asking why the location was closing and we were simply told, “unfortunately, we did have to make the difficult decision to close [our Lady’s Island location] for business effective immediately.”
We’re going to miss this spot and the superb sandwiches we enjoyed there over the past few years.
Beaufort has seen a few spots close over the past month or so. We lost both of Beaufort Bread Company’s locations, which closed abruptly in July. After that, Briciole Bistro closed without notice, and Bela Luna Cafe on St. Helena Island shut down just a couple of weeks ago without notice after 11 years.
If you miss it too much…..you can find other locations here.
