Living in Beaufort, SC means sea islands, beaches, BBQ, and a whole lot of Southern style. Whether you’re sipping sweet tea on your porch or debating which is the best barbecue sauce, being from Beaufort, SC & the Sea Islands comes with its own set of unique quirks. Let’s determine if you’re a true Beaufort local with these 24 telltale signs.

You’ve spend more than just a few summer days along Hunting Island Beach.

You know “y’all” is singular, plural, and means just about anyone and anything.

You’ve stood and talked with a friend at the grocery store for more than ten minutes while in everyone else’s way.

You have a favorite boat landing. And, you can back the boat in the water without problem.

You’re well aware that cold iced tea should always be sweet, and could never imagine tasting it any other way.

You’re familiar with hurricane season, and have survived at least one Category 2 storm at home.

No-see-ums barely bother you anymore.

You barely break a sweat in August

You’ve gone shrimping or crabbing at least once in your life.

You’ve attended the Annual Beaufort Water Festival.

You own at least one piece of clothing with the Palmetto tree and crescent on it.
