South Carolina is home to some of the most beautiful and diverse beaches on the East Coast, and that’s why AmericanOceans.org put together a list of the 20 Top Beaches in South Carolina.

Whether you’re seeking family fun, romantic sunsets, outdoor adventure, or a peaceful escape into nature, the Palmetto State has a beach to match every mood and travel style.

Our beloved Hunting Island came in at #9 on the list.

“Hunting Island State Park is a stunning, undeveloped barrier island located near Beaufort, South Carolina, and is one of the state’s most popular parks,” AmericanOceans.org said.

“It features five miles of pristine beaches, maritime forests, saltwater lagoons, and a historic lighthouse you can climb for panoramic views.”

They must not know the lighthouse won’t reopen for a few more months. We’ll let them off the hook for that one.

“Nature lovers enjoy hiking trails, birdwatching, fishing, and spotting wildlife like deer, alligators, and seabirds. The park’s natural beauty and peaceful setting make it perfect for camping and quiet coastal adventures. With limited commercial activity, Hunting Island offers a refreshing escape into untouched nature and a true taste of South Carolina’s wild coastal landscape.”

It’s true. hunting Island is all of that, and much, much more!

One of the few remaining undeveloped barrier islands along our coast, our slice of paradise along the Atlantic means so much to so many, with more than a million visitors from all over the world walking the sandy beaches every year, it’s the single most visited State Park in all of South Carolina.

Other local Beaufort County area beaches made the list as well.

Coligny Beach on Hilton Head came in at #20. Harbor Island ranked #19 on the list, while Fripp Island Beach came in at #17. Daufuskie Island came in at #15, and Edisto Beach ranked high at #8.

The Top 10, according to AmericanOceans.org?

10. Seabrook Island
9.  Hunting Island
8.  Edisto Beach
7.  Sullivan’s Island
6.  Isle of Palms
5.  Pawleys Island
4.  Myrtle Beach
3.  Folly Beach
2.  Kiawah Island

Which beach ranked #1 on the list?

Hilton Head Island.

Although they ranked Coligny at #20, they didn’t name a particular beach on Hilton Head as #1, which is strange, because that is what the list was supposed to be about. But, instead, they just named the whole island as the best.
